Don't worry... not thinking about cutting my hair... :-) Just letting it grow...
I've been in a somewhat 'philosophical' mood lately due to some personal stuff going on and thought I'd share with you some stuff that's helped me over the years. Hope it might help you...
1. Life's too short not to be doing things you really want to do. If there's something you've thought you'd really like to do but keep putting it off, just do it. You'll be glad you did.
2. Be yourself. It's more fun that way!
3. Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional...
4. Get high on Life.

Good advice Rick. I don't do everything I'd like to do, but I do try to just be myself.
Oh yah, the growing old not up part, good one!
Bruce
I saw that on a bumper sticker years ago and it sorta stuck with me because it's so true... :-)

...of retirement !!
Doing my best to live up to those principles. Yeah !!
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Go for it!

Hi Rick,
What wonderful advice, and a great way to think! Right now, I am happily retired, and have set out on a totally new road in my life, that I never dreamed I would never embark on, at the age of 55! It goes to show that it is never too late for anything!
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Retired, travelling, and meeting Tammy... sounds great to me! You're right... it is never too late for anything. Something I've wanted to do for some time was to try surfing. At 56, I'm definitely not letting age stop me. Someone who inspired me to get started on this is Steve NoVA. He posted awhile back about swimming in the Pacific, without a wetsuit. Yeah, the water's cold here [San Francisco Bay Area]. So, a couple of weeks ago, I bought a wetsuit and jumped in the ocean. Off to a good start!

I know the feeling I have these Philosophical moments from time to time. They're healthy and make you think and put things in perspective.
Kevin
Besides making you think and putting things in perspective, philosophical moments can get you through bad times also...

Hi Rick,
Such wise and never a true word spoken.
I hope you personal situation sorts itself out soon. Just think of fun evenings in Notting Hill!
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks, John. Things will sort out. Just takes time...
Can't remember the name of the pub we were at when I was there in April of '07. It was in Bayswater across from Hyde Park. Great food, great beer, and great company!

Couldn't have been said better Rick. Thanks so much for posting this.
Justin~
Definitely not a problem, Justin. It's always nice to share things like this that could help others.

Whewww....Man that's a relief as you had me worried for a minute there!
What can I say Rick as that's sound advice and I too have been thinking in those terms as I get older.I'd hate to think I missed out on the better things in life when it may get to be too late.At least I conquered the hair issue early in life so in that respect I've been living my dream every day for over 20 yrs. However I know for a fact that I've resisted doing other things for some reason.I'll have to work on that.Great statement BTW my friend:)
Mark
I thought about that after I typed the subject and decided to add that line... :-)
I've noticed that the older I get [physically], the more I think in these terms. I've always liked long hair and 4.5 years ago, I just decided to let it grow. And then, at 48 years old [8 years ago], decided to learn to ride motorcycles, something I've had an interest in since '76 but just never did anything about it. Go for it! :-)

Great list, pity it took me until well into high school to realize some of them. Although my dad's done a good job instilling #3 in me! You should see him RTS! lol

I've thought of a few more for the list after I posted this. Maybe in the sequel! :-)
BTW... can you explain what RTS is? Thanks!
--Rick
RTS is "Real Time Strategy", a type of computer game (the ones like chess). Like Google, it's also used as a verb.
Thanks for the explanation, Christian!

Wonderful outlook! And you didn't have to get hit over the head with a 2 x 4 either!
Yes, it's a good outlook. As far as 'getting hit over the head with a 2 x 4...' emotionally, sometimes it feels like it. But, you get up, pull the splinters outta your head, and keep on going...
