...so, here are a few shots I took today (after a full day of teaching).
Here I am with a low res, cropped pic. (I like how it showed my length in relation to my face, but the flash reflected something fierce and this was the best I could salvage.)
Here is a shot which shows the thickness of my hair, especially as hangs behind my head. (The curls add such density and hide the length!)
A standard head shot. (Is it possible for admin to just pull this for my updated avatar, or should I email it to Oren?)
And this one is just for fun. The evening light was the basis of a fun photographical experiment.
No need to comment, but they are welcome. I'd not be where I am were it not for the support from this board. Particularly early on. Congrats to those now making the decision to grow it out.)

Whereas genetics has surely set me up with dense hair, you've gotten the bulky, muscular build. (WEll, genes plus your TLC, too, I imagine.) We each get our own cards and do the best we can with them, I guess. Thanks for your compliment!

Truth be told, if my facial grew more densely, I might try a longish beard just for kicks, but mine only keeps an intentional appearance (i.e. doesn't look wispy, scraggly and extra messy) when kept at this length. Thanks for the comments, UK.

Very cool to see your update and that you made it as well it
looks great. I noticed as is often the case with curly hair
it's curlier towards the ends and less so near the scalp.
If you decide you want this as your avatar definitely send it in.

Thanks for the compliment, Kevin. The 'straighter near the scalp' is all illusion. While it looks that way, it is really only because of the weight of the rest of my hair pulling down on it (finally! It no longer goes out and out and out, but is hanging downwards, too!). If I cut off the curly-looking bottoms, the new bottoms would curl up just as much as is evidenced by the fully curly hairs that can be found on my bathroom floor.

Thanks! Length seems slow. as it grows the bottoms curl more, like twisting vines. The top is just as curly, but, the weight of the length of the hair, pulls it to look straight.

You've got some awasome mane, toughing out the akward stage was worth it. The top start is settling down now so that means it's getting quite long.

I think I'd like my bang to be able to reach between the tops of my shoulder blades going up and over the back of my head: No fly-aways on pony tails...well not from the bangs being too short, at least.

School year is off to a great start. The weather has been AWESOMe where I live- mid 70s to low 80s. Cold isn't where I live ..... yet. (BTW my school, being entirely bussed, gets SNOW DAYS...so let the winter weather blow my way!)

It does tend to grow, but the fact that it LOOKS longer is a testament to it finally being more heavy than curly. Length is on its way, now.

I liked the photo you had to salvage as well. Yikes, doesn't that almost always seem the way........the one liked best doesn't turn-out as expected. Oh well, the above might be considered an "artistic rendering." (One way to get around almost anything. LOL.)

Thanks for the wonderful compliment. I tell you, at all the union meetings and teacher workshops I go to, males are about 1 in 10 (I teach elementary, public school). I've seen only a couple long haired males other than myself. It is rare.

THanks, to my fellow curly-head. I appreciate you comment. It does seem to grow SO slowly when I see other, straight-hairs at 18 or 20 months of growth hanging below my own apparent length. Mine is thick, though, and I do like the curls.
