I don't know if any of you noticed it, but as my hair gets longer I've been getting more kind comments from women about "I love your hair" and "I got a thing for ponytails". Do any of you get approched more by females with your long hair vs. when it was short?
I haven't noticed Mike, but mates that I go out with say I am getting 'eyed up' all the time, which is all rather amusing for a scruffy old bloke!!

Hehe yeah I get those comments every once in a while. I think its more than a coincidence that as my hair gets longer I get better and more confident with the ladies
I last had a haircut in January when my hair was very short - I'm growing it out now (first time in 20 years) it's now close to 6 inches long and I too have had more female attention then before the hair got noticeably longish. More Women smile at me in the street, often I get looked over more then once, and sometimes I even have strange girls come right up to me and strike up a conversation with no effort on my part! Not one women has said anything negative about my hair and the compliments keep coming. Also I think in a weird way some girls feel connected with guys who have longer hair as we have what many girls have which is longer hair and are often free thinkers who live outside the square (pardon the pun!)
As I believe about 50 percent of the female population like men with longish hair and there's only like say 5 percent of us in the adult male population we are at a definate advantage.

That is probably true. I think lots of women don't dare to say they prefer long hair on a guy because it's not always accepted by society. But I found out that most of my female friends prefer long hair on guys (I mean real long, not longish)
I don't get much female attention but on those odd occasions I do, they love to touch and feel my hair. Just another great thing about having long hair. I love it :)
yes even i got similer comments. i think ladies just love the guys with long hair. am never gonna cut my hair..lolz
When you poll women on something they will say what they currently think and do the exact oppisite tommorow.
Hence about 60% of women say they don't like guys with long hair, but since I have had long hair I have never had a problem getting a date.
For some reason, most of the hair compliments I get from strangers are from black women. Anyone else experience this, or have a theory to explain it?

I don't know about "most", but I know what you mean. Maybe they appreciate white men trying to break out of the old traditional white-man mold more deeply than most--I dunno. (I once read a story on the Web that asserted that black people enjoy the Lord of the Rings movies for much the same reason.)
I think you may be on to something with this comment. I've had this type thing on my mind lately, having read Malcolm X and the talk about the "white devils." Long hair for a man does indeed represent a break from traditional white male hegemoniacal paradigm and all the history that goes along with it.
Yes. Women start caressing my hair as I hate that. And I always walk around with a french braid. ^^
I haven't noticed any more attention, but I do get positive compliments from the ladies.
It's a continuum; the women that like it, really like it. The ones who never did still don't.

As my hair gets longer, it gets more waves & curls. There are 3 older Ladies who are always telling me they love it. I've always wondered why ladies seem to have short hair later in life though.
That is a weird cultural thing and it got a bit of a story behind it:
In the past it was common for western women to put their hair up after being married (before marriage they could wear it down if they'd wanted to). But when the 1920's came with the fashion of short hair, the short hair somehow replaced the 'putting hair up after marriage'. And that kind of stayed like that. So women tend to cut it of after mariage, getting kids or getting older. Women get pressured to cut their hair by family members, friends, colleagues who say they should 'look their age and cut their hair' (there are heaps of threads on this on other longhair forums) and lots of women give in to that. It's a weird idea that having long hair would have anything to do with age, after all it takes a long time to grow it!
But the good thing is: this rediculous custom is changing :-)

Boy, I wish. But then apparently there's something about me that scares people in the first place. I've always found it difficult to approach people of either sex--they just never seem to give off the signs that tell me it's OK, or else I've got self-esteem problems.
The only comment I've gotten from a female has been from my 18-year old daughter, who says I look "like a caveman." Ha ha.
I look "like a caveman." Ha ha.
Cavemen are sexy (yes, I'm a woman).... :)
I've certainly been getting more attention since I grew mine out, but maybe it is something to do with the LOTR films.
The one downside is that some women feel they have the right to walk up behind me and grab my hair and tell me how wonderful it looks and feels. If I did that to them, I'd probably get done for assault. I do appreciate compliments and if someone asks if they can touch my hair, that's fine, but I don't appreciate being accosted by someone I've never met especially when the first thing I know about it is when they yank my hair.
