Well, I tried oiling my hair for the first time on Thursday morning. I got some jojoba oil from one of the UK health food chains and just did a light oiling. I sectioned my hair like I normally would for plaiting and put a few drops of oil on my palm, rubbed my hands together and oiled one segment of hair. I think I overdid it the first time as it looked and felt very greasy, so I used less oil on the other two segments and they looked OK. I left the oil in and then repeated again on Friday morning. It didn't look or feel too greasy.
I washed and conditioned my hair on Saturday morning and I must admit it felt really soft and looks much shinier than before. It also seemed to brush through more easily.
I oiled it yesterday and again today and tomorrow's a wash day. What I've started doing is sectioning it, adding a couple of drops of oil to the last six inches of hair, which are a bit too dry for my liking, and then another drop to the length between there and around my ears, then brushing the whole length to even out the oil distribution. I'll see how this goes over the next week, but so far, I'm happy with the results.
The one downside I've noticed is that I'm not too keen on the smell of jojoba oil. I think another visit to the shop is called for to see if I can get another oil I do like the fragrance of and add a few drops to see if it makes any difference.
YES I AGREE THAT IT MAKES THE HAIR SHINY AND MORE MANAGEABLE.
JUST CURIOUS - WHAT DOES YOUR JOJOBA OIL SMELL LIKE?
I STARTED USING JOJOBA OIL VERY RECENTLY AS WELL TOO - WITH GOOD RESULTS-AND BOUGHT TWO DIFFERENT BRANDS MADE RIGHT HERE IN AUSTRALIA TO TRY OUT - CANNOT SMELL ANYTHING EXCEPT A VERY VERY FAINT ALMOND LIKE SMELL WITH GREAT EFFORT!
REGARDS FROM DUNCAN OF OZ
Hi, Duncan,
I just thought it smelt like hair that hadn't been washed for a long time, and that was before I'd put it on my head.
Viking,
Glad you had better results with Jojoba oil. I tended to put too much on or not enough. I never really got anything out of it and, you are right, the smell isn't good. I tried this recently: in the shower, I conditioned my hair and rinsed. Then I put conditioner on again, but not rinsing it out. I wrapped my head in a towel and watched TV for a couple of hours. Mine felt fantastic after that. Just a suggestion...see how it works for you.
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
Growing My Hair Out...Again! Progress Pics
Thanks, Brett.
I very rarely have time to pamper my hair to that extent - joys of being self-employed and never having time off. The times I have managed to do a deep conditioning, it's felt great afterwards, but they don't come along often. That's one of the reasons I wanted to try the oil - it doesn't take long to apply and is meant to protect and condition the hair. So far it seems to be going pretty well. I don't suppose I'll notice too much of a difference for the first couple of weeks though.
