I'm in the process of growing my hair. It's been 3 months since my last cut. I think I have now entered the awkward phase and it is beggining to look bad. Do you have any advice for me on how to deal with hair during the awkward phase? Also, do you think I should get a trim or should I just let it grow out first? Never had hair longer than 1.5 inches before lol and it took a long time to convince my mum to let me grow it.
First of all, do not let a scissor blade touch your hair for a few years, or how ever long you want your hair to be. You want long hair, right? So don't trim it or that will slow the process big time. For the awkward stage, try hats, hair gel, bobby pins, hair spray, bandannas, et cetera...
Cheers,
Hegg
Thank you for your help
Absolutely right. All trimming or cutting will achieve is prolonging the awkward phase. Use gels and waxes in the early stages and then move on to hats and bandannas as it gets longer. In a few months, you'll be able to tie the front back in a half tail and then you'll know that you're nearly there. The plus point for you is that you're coming into this part of the process as winter comes on. It's a lot easier than going through it in summer.
just keep growin
Trimming will only make the awrward phase go on for longer. Try a side parting, so that your hair at the front doesn't get in your eyes, and you'll find things a lot easier.
Bobby,
I don't know what to tell you other than to hang in there...it's kinda like a rite of passage on becoming a longhair. You might want to try bandanas or hats, taking care not to wear them all the time as they can cause damage. Just bear with it for awhile. You'll be glad you did...just be nice to your Mom...you don't want her to change her mind!!! Eventually you'll find that at a certain point your hair is gonna look really good! As far as trimming goes, I think it depends on just how unruly your hair gets. It will, obviously, slow your growth but it can make it look a little neater. The problem there is finding a stylist who understands that you want to grow it long. A good one will do you right. Just make sure you tell them exactly what you want.
Best of luck
