Some films that i've watched recently show men with long hair. One is Wayne's World where you can see men with very long hair, and the other is King David with Richard Gere. In this last one i also liked the ornaments such as earrings that the men used.
Anyone know of other films that show men with long hair?
"Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996)"
the male and female leads both have hair around waist-length, and it's
one of the most powerfully visual movies I've seen in a long time. If
you get into long hair on either men or women (or both), it's an
absolute treat. Incidentally, if you have problems with bisexual
erotic content, you might give it a miss though--there's some scenes
with explicit F-F sexuality, and a couple of M-M wrestling scenes
where the erotic content is very suppressed, but undeniable (unless
you're quite adept at ignoring such imagery, as much of this country
is). On the flip side though, if you enjoy bisexual erotica....
another good one is the movie adaptation of "Interview with a Vampire"
with Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater (would he be the token
short-hair? :-), etc. Not to sound obsessed or anything, but
considering it had the same director as "The Crying Game" I found it
simply incredulous how they somehow managed to remove almost all the
erotic tension which was ever-present between Louis and Lestat in the
novel.
...hmm, just re-read what I wrote ...damn, if it doesn't sound like
I'm frustrated... (heh, if I needed a date, this would probably be a
good way of getting one :-)
I don't see nearly enough movies but here goes:
Trash (obscure '60s art movie by Andy Warhol) with Joe D'Allesandro (yum! he's naked a lot, too)
Pulp Fiction (John Travolta - OK, it wasn't really that long)
Last Temptation of Christ (Willem Dafoe)
George of the Jungle (Brendan Frasier - no, I haven't seen it!)
The Saint (bad guys had great long hair, some w/ great beards, too)
Independence Day (Brent Spiner - quite a lot of hair. Think that was a wig?)
The Mission (Robert De Niro)
Dances with Wolves (lots of really handsome Native American men)
Braveheart (Mel's phony-looking hair extensions don't count)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Hair
Restoration (Robert Downey Jr. w/ quite a grand wig; his real hair looked good, too)
This is Spinal Tap
Two reasons why you don't see more longhaired men in movies:
(1) There are few if any consistently longhaired actors, certainly no longhaired leading men, because few actors can afford to limit the variety of roles they can play by remaining longhaired or taking time to grow their hair long. As a physical trait, short hair is easier to work around.
(2) Long hair on men is usually used to convey a very specific image -- independent, youthful, rebellious, unconventional, creative, sexy and/or dangerous (that's why Brad Pitt had long hair in Legends of the Fall). Unless the story calls for that image, long hair doesn't really serve a purpose.
Okay here's a few more (sorry if I duplicate anything already said).
--Christopher
The Lost Boys
Tarzan (the awful Bo Derek version with Miles O'Keefe)
To Die for 2 (Michael Praed)
Iron Maze (Jeff Fahey)
In the Name of the Father (Daniel Day Lewis and others)
Highlander (Christopher Lambert)
Dragonworld
The Crow (Brandon Lee)
12 Monkeys (Brad Pitt)
Nightflyers (Michael Praed)
Legend (Tom Cruise)
The Last of the Mohicans (Daniel Day Lewis)
The Jungle Book (the newer Disney live action version)
Die Hard (some of the bad guys)
Dance of the Damned
Give me time and I'm sure I can think of more (I guess more than one of us are frustrated without enough to occupy our time)!
I'm impressed! It would've taken me a while to come up with some of those! Except for 12 Monkeys -- Brad Pitt had a buzz cut in that movie -- remember, he was an inmate in the asylum.
I'm trying to think whether Eric Stoltz has had long hair in any of his movies (he was pretty shaggy in Pulp Fiction). Plus, what was that vampire movie with Jason Patric -- Wild Boys? Weren't there longhairs in that one too?
Add these:
Little Big Man
McCabe & Mrs. Miller (plus any other modern Westerns)
Nashville
Brad had the buzz cut in the asylum, but it was long in scenes taking place after he got out - in the latter half of the movie.
Jason Patric's movie was The Lost Boys which I listed.
Eric Stolz was in a movie in the last year or two with Christopher Walken where he played an Archangels and had his hair long in it (was the movie called the Prophesy or is that a different movie). I just saw it again on cable recently.
Good additions. Here's a couple of more that I remembered.
Airheads and The Scout (both with Brendan Fraser)
Desperado (Antonio Banderas)
Here are some more movies that include long hair:
"Second Sight" (1989 comedy) Bronson Pinchot as a psychic detective. His hair is much longer than in the TV show "Perfect Strangers."
"Medicine Man" (1992) Sean Connery, an older long hair, as a biochemist researching a possible cure to cancer in the Amazon rain forest that is being destroyed by a lumber company.
"Sioux City" (1994) Lou Diamond Phillips directs and stars in this movie.
"Last Of The Mohicans" (199?) British and French and Indians in late 1700's in colonial America.
"Yanni Tribute" (1997?) Music concerts at Taj Mahol and the Forbidden City.
"Tommy" (1975, musical) Roger Daltrey as Tommy.
"King David" (1995) early history during time of King David. Many actors have long hair and beards.
Good job (BTW, Last of the Mohicans and King David were already listed). I'm a purist, so I would not list any movie whose longhaired characters rely on hair extensions, like Sean Connery in Medicine Man or Nicolas Cage in Con Air. Also, for the sake of the exercise, I'm disinclined to include concert documentaries (Woodstock, Gimme Shelter), which really comprise a separate genre from narrative feature fims (Yanni's a whole other story entirely -- is that really even music?). Which reminds me, what was the name of the Jim Morrison biography starring Val Kilmer? Was that his own hair?
That was just called THe Doors.
Two more:
Monthy Python's Life of Brian
Quest for Fire (*lots* of hair on everyone, everywhere!)
Don't forget SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND. Not only a camp classic, but a great hair movie! Except for George Burns and toupeed Donald Plesance, all the major male characters have shoulder-length hair.
I just rented Wayne's World. Apart from the two leads in the movie with extentions, there are TONS of men with long hair...especially musician/rocker types.....very hot...IMHO!
Maybe longhairs in music-related movies should be a subgenre!
