Hi everybody,
After visiting Las Vegas (which is definitely not my city) I arrived in Palm Springs where I will see some friends of mine. I've seen Hoover Dam which was much smaller than I expected but still impressive and I've followed the remainings of Route 66. It was very gusty out there and with all that dust and the ruins it was pretty impressive. The pic I took somewhere on an off-road trail around Cajon Summit (southwest of Victorville).
On Tuesday I will go back to Los Angeles (probably not directly, I might go further south along Salton Sea and then cross the mountains). So, if anyone of you longhairs is from around LA --> I will probably be available for a meet up on Thursday and/or Friday.
Anyway, on Saturday I will be flying back to Switzerland :(

Thanks for the e-mail address Tom. I enjoy talking to men with long-hair.
Regardless
Hey Tom,
Sounds like you've had a quite impressive trip on the west coast and I do like the wheels you selected for that journey.Looks like one of those Hertz Shelby Mustangs I've read about:)Anyway you certainly hit the hot spots as I am planning a Vegas trip in February next year which will be my first time there myself.I'm glad you are having a great time and looking forward to seeing your pics when you get the chance to post them.
Take care my friend.
Mark
Hi Mark,
Yes, it has been a very pleasant trip so far. And you're right, it's a Shelby, the most fun rental car I ever had. I will certainly post some more pics after I return home.
I hope you will enjoy Las Vegas in February!
--Tom
Looks like you certainly picked the right car for a trip down Route 66!! Is that Shelby I see peeking out from behind your leg?? I am so jealous, LOL.
Seriously, I hope you're truly enjoying your American travels. I'm on the wrong coast for a meetup, but maybe someday I'll make it to your neck of the woods.
Jim
Yes, it's a Shelby. I did not know that this is such a cult car here in the US but almost everywhere I stop, I get comments about the car, people take pictures of it and (only male) kids can't close their mouths any more...
I truly enjoy my trip, I do like the desert, I like big cities, I like mountains and the flat areas, I like the sea, I like forests, so the West Coast is ideal for me to travel around.
If you ever come to my area, I surely will enjoy to show you some nice spots in Switzerland.
--Tom
Yep, the West Coast and Southwest have some beautiful country. I lived out that way for a major portion of my life, before a new job took me to the East Coast a few years ago.
You didn't like Vegas?? Well it's not for everyone but it is definitely my city I love it. Glad your having a good trip otherwise. I would come by for a meet up but it's a 3 day drive for me. LOL
Take care
Kevin
It's kind of strange. For me, Vegas is very interesting but I don't feel very comfortable there (and when I'm talking about Vegas here, I mean the Strip). All of it is a theatre of imagination. You never know what is real and what is fake.
Anyway, I know that very many people like Las Vegas and of course I can understand it! It's just not my thing.
3 days drive? Would be ok for Friday then :) LOL
See you,
--Tom
Good to hear everythings oke, enjoy your last days of your trip!
Thanks, I sure will!
--Tom
Looks like you're haveing a great trip with beautiful weather. I like the wind blown hair picture here and the one you posted to Brett's challenge. You can always count on a good desert breeze. Last year we tooled around some of the same parts of the southwest, hitting the Vegas area and traveling east to Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. All of the Southwest is something everyone should see, sometime in thier life.
Looking forward to your next report.
Bruce
Yes, it has been great so far. I had some rain drops in Lake Havasu but otherwise the wheather was just perfect.
It sounds like you had a great trip too around this area and I agree that everyone should have the chance to see it sometime...

Hi Tom,
Thank you for sharing all your updates about your wonderful trip, and there is nothing like the lure of the open road, with so much of the USA open for exploration, and great people to meet along the way.
I wih you the very best when it is time for you to take to the air on your return trip back home, and may all your travels be safe.
Take care,
David
Thanks a lot for your wishes, David. Unfortunately, I will have to return home this Saturday...
Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom.
Since I live in Seattle, California is just a short flight down south, and I had been there more often than any other state, since some of my family lives down there. In addition, I have been to Las Vegas last summer, and it was a fun place, although I am not too fond of gambling. I like very hot weather. In California, I been to Los Angeles, San Diego, and places such as Disneyland, Legoland, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, and I have seen elephant seals not far from Santa Cruz.
Regardless
Hi Regardless,
Sounds like you had a lot of fun, too. I've seen elephant seals last time I was there (also pretty close to Santa Cruz, as far as I remember).

Good timing. It was 108 last week and it'll be over 100 in a day or two. Somehow you managed to be here when it's in the 80s and 90s.
That's what I call long term planning :) LOL
Actually for me it's still very hot around here. Where I come from, it's around 55 (13 deg Celcius) maximum and during the nights around 45 (8 deg Celcius).
You said 'here'. Are you in Palm Springs?
You said 'here'. Are you in Palm Springs?
Yup. I've lived here since 2000. Anything under 85 is sweater weather.
And, you have gotten to drive an American car with a big motor! (The Mustang in the background is yours, no?)
HAHAHAHAHA! Take that Bayerische Motor Werken!
Of course... Most rental cars are American cars, most with small motors, some with big ones :)
(Back home I drive a European car)
