I'm personally pretty tired of being discriminated against by ignorant people over my long-ish hair. How do you folks deal with such hatin'? Also, I really hate it when people tell me to cut my hair because it's "feminine" to have long hair. Who are some bad-asses from history who sported long hair?
Yes, I agree. I will not tolerate discrimination on men with long hair.
My dad is a bit discriminating with my hair. I did not choose to have wavy hair, and my dad thinks that since I have wavy hair, he thinks my hair is crazy and out of control.
I will not cut my hair, even if my boss tells me.
I deal with long hair haters by shutting them out of my communication meaning I don't talk to them anymore. However, most people support me growing out my hair.
Regardless
People can be so stupid! What would they have said if they'd go back 200 years in time and see men with long hair everywhere? LOL. Long hair been pretty common for men in most cultures.
Another thing: since humans (both male and female) can grow their hair long, there must be an evolutionairy reason for it. I think one of the reasons is protection. Bald/very short haired people get sunstroke easily, so long hair is quite handy against that. There probably are more reasons why human hair grows that long.
as for 'bad-asses from history', I guess there have been heaps of warriors who had long hair.
Let's see for badasses - well in the USA there was General Custer of Little Big Horn (who ironically got killed by other longhairs -that being the "injuns" in 1876), and I think Wild Bill Hickock a gunfighter had long hair too, then there's Buffalo Bill who ran a circus (they made a movie in the mid 1970's about him), Also I think a pirate captain called Edward Tell aka as Blackbeard?
As for dealing with ignoramuses I generally give the long-hair haters "the evil eye" and then totally ignore them afterwards. They are looking for a reaction and will usually tire when they don't get what they want.
On a more positive note you may find that you get more friendly responses from other local long haired guys in the locality where you live who prior to that were just a familiar stranger in the street.

the pirate who was also known as Black beard was called Edward Teach
But yes he was a bad ass :) as most pirates were
Yes, some be hatin' Others talk in Alaskan dialect. But we cannot control others. We can only control ourselves, and the trend toward us men to have long hair is growing, for to most of us it symbolizes peace rather than war, negotiations and not violence; equality between the sexes, rather than masculine superiority. The evolutionary force is with us.

Ignorance and bigotry can vary greatly, depending not only on what part of the world you live in, and from country to country; but also depending upon what exact area of a country you live in (whether you live in a large city, for example; or conversely, in an isolated, maybe backward rural community instead)... And it can even vary because of the specific people you have historically chosen to hang out with, --- let's say, possibly over a long time (due to personal upbringing or maybe just familiarity of habit).
So many factors that can cause human stupidity, so few opportunities to "cure" it (lol)!!
For myself, one thing that I've noticed over time is this: The longer my hair grew out, the more people would stop voicing their negative opinions about it (probably because they had "given up" on me - lol)....
In the meantime, though: just hold your head up high, --- and strive to be the very best kind of person you can be yourself... regardless of the length of your protein strands!

That's just terrible and sadly it happens all the time.
Tell us a bit more about yourself and who is discriminate'in against you? How longhish is your hair? Introduce yourself to the group so we know a bit about you and can better answer your question.

Lately I haven't had to deal with "discrimination" over my hair. I used to have a job where the owner insisted on short hair...and there was really nothing I could do about it. In my current job, it isn't even a thought. I thought I'd get a lot of grief from my co-workers, but I convinced myself that it's time for me to live my own life and, when it comes to my hair, my own set of rules. It gave me a feeling of truly being in control of my life, which overcame any fears I had about what others think.
So, my advice to you is be your own bad-ass and screw what others think. Sport it proudly...you won't be sorry. Plus...it builds character!
Take care and good luck,
Brett

Love trumps hate. If the haters control you, they win. Whoever angers you controls you.
Historical badasses include but are not limited to the Trojans, the Greeks in some eras, the Persians, the Hittites, the earliest Romans, the Merovingians, the Chinese in some eras, British Stuart kings, the Vikings, the Native Americans, etc. The list is too long to name.
My usual response to any negative feedback about my hair is to:
A) Completely ignore it
B) Tell them, "Your opinion is noted, I'll think about that..." and then proceed with option A [grin].
The opinions of other people only have the value you give them. The biggest trick is to learn to let them roll off you like water off a duck.

I just ignore all the negative comments on my hair, I've heard enough the last year. The funny thing some of the people who where negative in the beginning now give me compliments.
Me. I'm my own bad-ass. I don't give a shit what others think. If that was the case I'd never leave my house.

Simple: if my long hair is so bad, why do I have three women hanging all over me trying to get me te to date them and YOU and your short hair have a grand total of none??? There is no comeback for that one when there's a cluster of chickage around you.
Look at any pictures of 200 years ago and I think you will agree those guys looked a whole lot more feminine than today's longhairs.
I sometimes get offended that some people think it is wrong for Men to emulate some feminine features. Women have been emulating men for centuries and it would be nice if we returned the favor.
Under what these guys think
Masculine is Superior
And feminine is Inferior.
I thank those that came before me during the 60's and 70's.If it wasn't those courageous folks, long hair would only be acceptable in a history book.
That's the crux of the matter. We need to lose the idea that women emulating men are raising their status and men emulating women are lowering theirs. It perpetuates a myth of male superiority that doesn't even benefit men, but just tries to impose limits on us instead.
Why, thankyou. Long haired here since 1972. I'm so glad I could help. Better late praise than never! I never think of myself as courageous, though.
Nobody really bothers me anymore. Probably an old fart with hair this long is seen as a 'lost cause'!
Bad-asses? I never tried to be one, but I probably don't qualify as historical just yet either. I don't think you need to be a bad-ass to be masculine. Just a little grumpy is sufficient.
Ignore them! Time is going forward, so all those with these primitive ideas have to travel aaall the distance to reach where you stand. So, don't look back to where someone can't move forward. It's his problem plus, you are losing time if you spend it (your precious time) about those people's believes.
Come on! We live in the 21st century! I've had it also with all those small-minded apes!
"haters" are often religious fanatic. Just tell tthem "Jesus had long hair" & they usually shut the hell up & walk away.
