i was looking at my short, long hair the other day and was wondering why i had cut my hair before. I got pretty pissed at myself, I had been working on it for two years and then some, it was so long and curly. If i hadn't cut it, obviously it would have been longer. I don't know why i gave in to my brother and dads standards. Now I feel like im missing a part of myself that should have been there, kind of like a limb or something. But i guess that's what this site is for, and i thank you all for caring a even a little bit. Have a good thursday and tomorrow,
Abe
I think I can relate to how you feel. I've only been growing my hair out for 8 months - and recently (and reluctantly) agreed to a "trim" because I was in a wedding. The stylist only removed an inch, but it feels like a lot more. Unfortunately it visually looks like a lot more than an inch has been removed.
I've never been a huge fan of Winter - but now I find that I am now really looking forward to February - because then my hair might be back to where it was just two short weeks ago.
Your analogy of losing a limb is obviously severe - but I totally get it. Interestingly, a lot of amputees describe a "phantom limb" syndrome ...
I suppose we're both okay until we start combing air!
Been there! I buzzed off 18 inches in '95. Biggest mistake I ever made. It took months to get used to being a shorthair again, but it never really felt right. It took the best part of ten years for me to get round to growing it again, but it feels great. I've been growing mine for just under four years and the longest strands are just about belt length now when wet. Your hair may grow faster or slower than that.
Anyway, you guys are on the road. Try to find the positives about your trims. Don't look on them as setbacks but as confirmation that you're doing the right thing in growing your hair. Another plus point is that if you had damaged ends, they should be gone now and you've had experience of what to do to care for your hair so you should be able to minimise damage in future. It will take a while to reach your goal lengths, but it will be worth it. Good luck, guys.
I've never had hair this long before, I tried once but didn't get further than 6 months. At least you know now that you really want long hair. Good thing it will grow back and you know what to expect so I hope that makes it easier to go through the akward stage.
Hang in there, Abe. I know just what you mean about your hair being like a lost limb. I used to feel that way every time I got a haircut. Now that it's long I feel complete.
Best wishes for a happy longhair journey!
Brett
