I choose long hair because it's me and to deny that would be a repudiation of my soul. Still, I get some satisfaction that some or most of society regards long hair on men as 'wrong'. I like the 'fuck you' mentality of bucking that. I so hate most of society's inventions and implications. I gag when I think of what society expects of males. I choose to be free to be me.
Here is a recent photo of Amanda and me.
def know what you mean Jason! here in the southeast part of the states i get bad remarks about my long hair alot from *country boys* as i call them lol they think long hair is for girls only and that im out of my league here but y ou know what fuck them too cause i dont care what anybody thinks its my hair only! and thats one badass mane i hope mine looks that damn good that your length :) thanks for sharing that awesome photo bro take care Jason
I'm from the north originally (boston) but have relocated to north carolina and I can relate to the redneck country boys acting like idiots. The funny thing is that a lot of their idols... country music singer, etc, have long hair. They're morons, don't listen to them and keep giving the finger to conformity. I'm 32 and have put up with a lot of discrimination for my hair but it's all worth it.
Ditto!I also like the idea of breaking free of the system by growing my hair out. You're the living proof that long-haired male can also date beautiful women!Your hair is looking ever-great!Peace ;).
Hi Jason. I sometimes get that feeling, especially when I am looking for jobs. I very rarely get remarks against my hair. Most of the time, people are just teasing. Right now, the only person against my hair is my dad (you probably read my post about him back in September).
I am growing out my hair so I can look stimulating on myself, and to build my self-image and rebuild my self-esteem. And young men with very short hair (like bald or a buzz) often look like gang members, criminals or militants. I have zero tolerance on a society against men with long hair.
Regardless
Hi Jason,
I certainly fully agree with you and always best to stick to your guns and be your own person. A delightful picture of Amanda and yourself and two heads of lovely hair. Always great to see a picture of both and also looking so happy.
I've not forgotten about the Amon Amart post.
Cheers,
John.
Hey Jason
I was never a fan of society and what they "expect", so when it comes to my own long hair I really could care-less, for to do so would be just to "try" and be what a vast amount "thinks" which just would not be true to myself. Life is so short and why live all of it trying to be someone your are not.......for to do so would mean that the person never really "lived."
Great photo and sensational long hair!
Justin~
Hear Hear brother.
Hi Jason,
Long time no chat! Great to see your recent pic of you & Amanda, --- you both look extremely happy together, so CONGRATS!!
I agree with you that in order to achieve hair length like you and I have acquired, at some point in time saying, "fuck you" to society's expectations to comply with their "norm" in how males should look happens (even if we'd rather not use words like that - lol)....
Interesting real-life story: I actually had to say those 2 words to a very dear friend of mine, a long-time dance partner who kept nagging me that I "should" keep my hair short. This happened shortly after my famous Y2K short haircut, and my friend Christina was so pleased that I "finally" had cut it, that she unfortunately couldn't stop gushing over my long hair being gone. Needless to say, I was WAY too sensative and depressed over my hair being suddenly short to respond to her in any sort of polite manner, that I said the "F U" right in front of her husband! Trying to stay civil, I employed a slight joking tone at first; but, when she repeated it again, "You look SO much betyter with short hair...", then again I repeated, "F U!" (only with a more serious tone the 2nd time around). Once again, she foolishly pushed her point... I don't remember what words she said exactly; but, when I had to say, "F U!!!!" a third time (and FORCEFULLY), she finally got the message that I indeed was going to grow it back long again, --- and that there was nothing that she could say or do to convince me otherwise!
It's too bad that we have to come across so bull-headed about such a simple thing as our own choice in hairlegnth on our own heads; but, until society more universally accepts longer locks on men, such is the case.
Thanks for your post, Jason! I'm now off to work soon, so I will check if you reply a few days later, when I get back home again maybe on Sunday...
Thanks again!!
- Ken
Glad to hear from you here, Jason ! Sometimes, I think this way too. And sometimes I feel all this cannot be totally bad... Anyway, it's always a good reflexion !
I saw you had a hard time with shedding this summer, how is it, now ?
Vivien
Agree with you Jason - and it could not have been said better.
Nice pic of the two of you too!
Karsten
Looking damn good, Jason! I share the same views as you, absolutely. Society's implications are always used against us, it's never a good thing! Anyways, your hair looks great. You look very happy! Makes me miss my special someone seeing you two.
Cheers,
Hegg
Hi Jason,
I agree about long hair, and feel it is part of me, after a four and a half year period with short hair.
That is a great photo of the two of you, and your hair is awesome, as always! Both of you look very happy!
Take care,
David
I could never go back to short hair. Mind you, I've had "long" hair for the last 35 years by most people's standards. I can't relate to what society appears to think males should look like.
Greetings Jason. Well stated...and a charming pic of you and Amanda.
Cheers,
Max
Hi Jason,
Your hair's looking great and I couldn't agree more with what you said. I'm very happy I'm living in a region where long hair is quite popular. I'm lovin' life!
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
Growing My Hair Out...Again! Progress Pics
Agreed. I've actually wondered if it was more acceptable for men to have long hair instead of short hair, whether I'd rather have short hair just to stick it to society. Probably not though, since I really like having long hair.
I'm with you on that and that is one of the reasons I like my long hair as it's me and my choice nobody else's. at work recently we opened a new store in a neighboring city and we were talking about the future and more stores opening/promotion opportunities. The issue of my hair was lightly mentioned that I may have to cut it to move to a day slot. It was brought up by my moss who is fine with my hair has no issue at all, his comment was the owners and their desire to maintain a clean cu "atmosphere" I lightly commented I probably wouldn't stay with the company if they after several years of hard work and dedication can't see past my hair. I was dead serious too.
Kevin
Amen! That's all I'll say... =)

I choose to be free to be me.
Yep. I know what it's like to regret not "being myself"--I still live with the regret of not having done it earlier. Looks like this board is made of stronger wills than my own.
OTOH, I don't really like "sticking it" to anyone--it's just necessary. You'd think that after FORTY YEARS everyone would be over it. But I guess the cultural conservatives "taught their children" better than the cultural liberals (pace Graham Nash). Fortunately I haven't gotten that much pushback--I guess I come across "square" enough otherwise, and things actually look as if they've been improving in the past few years.
But the important thing is, you look like you're just where you want to be in life, and to that I offer my congratulations. Rawk on!
