Hey guys I'm a 50 year guy and have decided to let it grow out. Use to have long hair when I was in my 20's. Not sure how long I will let it grow but I will see how things turn out.

Hi Raymond,
If it makes you feel more at home here, I happen to be in my 50's also (55, to be exact). Hey, it's only a number. In my mind, I'm still 23, --- I just look like hell for that age (lol)!!
The exact length that one wishes to grow long hair to is such an individual thing. Some folks here find that a more "medium-length" look suits them best; while other will "go for broke", not wanting to stop until it's dragging on the floor down the hallway and past the stairs, --- or, at least until Mother Nature (and genetics) makes a shorter-length decision for you (lol)!!
When I first grew my hair out long enough to tie all back into a ponytail, it was my 40th birthday, and I was completely THRILLED at the time, because I thought I had "arrived!" Over time, I kept "experimenting"... I kept saying to myself: "I'd like to try it a little bit longer, maybe even longer still..."
On the first day of summer in Y2K, I impulsively made adecision to cut my hair short (thinking I was, "ready" to return to "normal" - cough cough). Once it fully hit me what I'd done, I was devastated (my hair had gotten to waist-length before the cut), --- so, then & there I made a commitment to myself to never do that again.
That event was 8 years ago, and my hair is now belt-length. I've gone in for a few professional trims along the way (best to go to a really reputable salon, by the way, --- it will cost a lot more $$; but, you'll be a LOT more happy with the results); but, otherwise, trim as little off as possible (and as infrequently as possible)!
Although my hair looks closer and closer to being terminal length now (it is much thinner at the ends, as well as it's growing VERY slo-o-o-o-owly nowadays); still, I'm not yet at the point where I want to say, "Stop!"
My advise is to just stay tuned-in at this hyperboard here, regularly reading all of the material (including the wonderful stuff on the Links page), --- and also to just sit back and enjoy the journey along the way!
And again, WELCOME, --- and it also looks like you've got a great head of hair to work with for good hair farming!

Hey Raymond,
Do you have a pic of your longhair when you were 20?
Cheers, --Tom
No Tom I no longer have those pics when I was 20 and damn I wish I did.
Hi Raymond, and welcome aboard. Enjoy your journey...I wasn't able to start growing mine out until I was 40. It's never too late to start!
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett

Hi Raymond,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I think it is wonderful to see more guys over the age of 50 growing out their hair, proof that long hair is for everyone! You have a thick and healthy head of hair to begin with, and you can be assured that the rewards of having long hair are well worth it. I wish you the very best in your hair growing journey.
Welcome aboard!
David
Good luck Raymond and hope all goes well for you as you grow it out.

Hey Raymond...let's hear it for the 50 year olds! ( I will turn 50 in March...ouch!). Welcome to the community. You will find a wealth of info and motivation from this great crew. I wish you well on your quest. If it were not for this board I'm not sure I would have made it as far as I have.
Cheers to you,
Max
Welcome to the board and good luck growing it out after all those years of being a shorthair.
