Actually, I don't wear my hair down a lot, it's too unpractical and it gets tangled as well. I never wear a bun like that though, I was just trying it for fun.

How did you do that bun? My hair is just long enough for a decent ponytail now but can't wait to try that bun. Awesome.
For this bun you need a kind of donut (formed from a pair of socks or especially made and for sale in drug stores) and therefore is called sock bun or donut bun. You put the hair through the hole and spread it back over the sides of the donut, then add a hair band, and twist the remainder of the hair around it. On youtube you can find videos showing how to do it!
I don't know how long your hair needs to be exactly, but I guess you need at least mid back length or maybe even waist length...
