My wife, youngest son and I went out for dinner tonite. I had my hair clipped back with a plastic barrette in sort of a half-tail.
Partway thru the meal, one of the restaurant staff stopped by our table to say "You've got really awesome hair".
Made my night [grin]
You really do have awesome hair, it's true. It's good to hear it from random people though.
What kind of barrette did you use? I am still looking for some way to tie back my hair with something besides a pony tail holder/hair tie.
That's very cool to hear, most of the times the comments are negative. There are very few people who say that they like the hair.
Long hair hatred is not everywhere...the vast majority of comments I get are positive, either with it bunned up, clipped or down.
And anyone looking for some less feminine barrettes might want to take a gander at Bronze Jewelers. The image is of the one I use.

How does this one clip on to the hair? I looked these over when you linked them previously, but wasn't sure how they functioned.
They are slides, so the horizontal wire thingy, slides out to release, and to attach, it goes under the hair and slides though the loop on the other side of the barrette, stays in place with simple tension...the slide is bendable to accommodate different amounts of hair, but it is still probably a good idea to buy an appropriately sized slide.
Also, they are constructed of round wire, with rounded brazing/soldering, so they won't abrade or damage hair, as most french clips will.
Thanks, that's how I thought it went.
"Horizontal wire thingy", gotta love those technical terms [grin]
Well, when I wrote that I had just had a spectacularly good meal, and a few (also very good) drinks. ;)
Maybe I've been fortunate, but most of the comments I've received have been positive. Hopefully your luck will turn around in that matter.
Last couple of months, some people who were negative now think it looks okay. I'm beginning to get out of the akward stage so I think that's the reason why.
once you are out of the awkward stage, Vincent. 2 things will happen. Your hair will look a lot better and most people around you realize that you are committed to growing and keeping it long. At shoulder blade length and longer, you should receive mostly compliments.

The same thng kind of happened to me yesterday. I went out to eat a bite after Church with my folks, as we sat down some folks at another table were about to leave and their young daughter stood behind me looking at me or my wheelchair. My brother-in-law made the crack comment to the little girls mother that "she just looking at his ponytail", the little girls mom said "I hope her hair grows out to look as good as his (me)!" It wasn't the comeback my brother-in-law was looking for, but it made me smile.

hsi nice to know that. In fact almost a similar thing happened to me when we went out for an eatout. I gave in to my wifes request to have my hair done for the outing. I usually shave my mousch and beard once a fortnight and she wanted me to have it done on that day, and after that she washed my hair with shampoo, and applied conditioner. She then had the hair dried with an hair dryer and to top it all she wanted me sport a long french braid and she did it for me.
The waiter at the restaurant said to me that my hair is too good to look at and is extremely well maintained and he infact complimented my wife for the attitude shown by her. He said that possibly because my wife has short hair ( I dont remember my wife ever cutting her hair). in fact he told to my wife that the credit should actually go to her.
I got one of those on Tuesday night. One of my badminton team told me she'd overheard her teenage daughters talking about me a few days previously. I'd met the older one briefly a while back and she was telling the younger one about me. Allegedly she said, "He's got a really long beautiful blond ponytail which he plaits. I hope I can grow mine like that."
It's great to get a compliment and also to help inspire someone else to grow their hair too.
