Hi guys-
When growing out the hair and just letting it do its own thing "naturally" without being sissors, even-up and trim-happy, a great natural V-shape appears fully developed by the time the hair reaches mid-back. Hegg showed us just the other day the great v-shape his own hair has taken on all by itself. As the hair grows longer, the V-shape appears less distinct and as can be seen in the photo taken yesterday, the bottom at this present length has now assumed the shape of a "U." Past where I am at present I believe the U will become less and less distinct depending on how close one is getting to terminal length. Of course, I am only speaking for those of us that have for the most part a straighter hair type. Curls have a special charm all their own and ALWAYS look well. That's the great thing about having long hair and leaving it alone. It WILL look well. (Almost as if one cannot miss.)
So, for those of you out there desiring to grow your hair past waist length, thought I would try and show you as best as I could an example of what will be happenning to yourself...........without trims and sissors of course. Oh sure, some dustings or target and destroy of split ends along the way as needed, but not the every 6 month or so "trim" to remove a few inches.

So, just a little preview to those of you planning on growing your hair really long as to what lays ahead.
My best to each and every one of you.
Justin~
Hey Justin,
I'm glad I have started get the V-shape on my hair, and that I haven't touched a blade to it EVER since I started growing. If the V-shape leads to what you have now, then WOW, I cannot wait! Thanks for the post, this is a great thing to get out there and teach others about. By the way, for taking a photo that way, you did a good job, I can't even get a decent shot like that, haha!
Have a good rest of the week!
Hegg
Hey Hegg
Thanks for the compliment about being able to get a photo in reverse. Guess it was pure luck as I didn't even know if I would hit the target: ie.....me. LOL
With the kind of hair you have, I do not have a single doubt in my mind that you WILL be able to acquire this length and U-Shape, most probably 3 years from now easily. You are doing ALL the right things to achieve this. Take care and just keep letting your hair do its own thing.

Hi Rafael
Well, guess with the kind of hair you have you better start making plans to die happy..........of course 90 years or so "after" your hair gets to this point. :-)
My best to you and with great future long hair growth.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
What amazing hair to be blessed with, so thick and healthy, and I am sure that terminal length is a long ways off for you. I can only dream of having hair as long as yours, but I will keep trying, since yours is a real inspiration.
Take care,
David
Hey David
As always thank you for such kind compliments as only you know how to give. Yes, I AM indeed very lucky, especially now at the age of a fossile! LOL :-) Surely keep trying, for one never knows until they do and your own hairs progress may very well surprise you more than you can even realize right now. Take care friend.

Justin, a fine example of nature taking it's course. With a
good hair care routine and a lot of time one can achieve great
results without much fuss.
Kevin
Hey Kevin :-)
You are so right about a good routine and just letting nature take its course. And yes.........great results without undue fuss is not really all that hard. Nature always is the best when all is said and done.
All the best-
Justin~
Looking good, Justin! It's interesting how everything will naturally work itself out. Just goes to show that nature has a plan for everything and everyone. ;)
-James
Hi James-
Thanks so much, and it IS interesting how everything works its way out almost like magic. My best to you as always and hope you are having a great day.
Justin~
Hey Justin the hair is lookin' fantastic as usual. You certainly got the routine down to a science as what more could you ask for other than more length.I can hear the cheers now....Gimmi a "U"!!!!!LOL.Great pic btw as you've gone to great pains to take it.I can tell:)
Mark
Hey Mark
You are much too kind with the compliments, but I DO thank you ever so much. Cheers or Jeers? LOL :-) Actually I lucked-out with the photo and got it on my 1st try which amazed me so much I almost passed-out! Thank you Mark and hope all is going well with you and that your own long hair is looking as sensational as ever.
Justin~
Great update Justin.....your hair is fantastic.
Thanks for Sharing
Unfortunately for me....my hair is never going to make it that long......However, my BODY has gone from V-Shaped to U-Shaped !!
Sigh......
Walter
Hey Walter
What an honor to hear that my hair is fantastic. I think it is at least passable............but the person having it always doesn't see it like others do. (Hey, sometimes that could be a blessing.) LOL :-)
No way has your body gone from these shapes. You are in great condition and we must remember that of all on this board that most likely it is only we that can remember the day Lincoln was elected President.
Take care Walter and hope you are having a great day.
Justin~
Hey Justin, now that was very useful information...thanks very much for sharing. I have noticed over the past several months that my own hair is developing a very strong v shape in the back and I am happy to know that it will become less noticeable over time...although I am thinking of getting an evening up trim in about a year or so...just want to add another 6 inches or so.
Thanks again for sharing your expertise.
Cheers,
Max
Hi Max
More than happy to share the little bit of info I have learned only because I have lived through the growing-out process to the length my hair is now. And of your own long hair which is doing ever so well, yes, at times a slight (dusting) trim IS NECESSARY to make sure that the ends do not become so narrow as to set up tangles and knots like you wouldn't believe and start to destroy perfectly good growth. Good Point. Trouble is, so many guys have fallen into what I call the "trim-trap" when still in the beginning stages thinking somehow that trims, layers, even-ups etc. are necessary. If you think of it, ones hair length will NEVER be even because of new growth always replaceing the old. Just leave the hair alone for the most part and it will look fine and no set-backs or later-on regrets that a Salon was visited.
Take care Max.
Justin~
Justin, your hair looks great as usual. It's great that nature has gifted you with such a bounteous boon of cascading hair!
I want to try this no cutting for as long as I can, but I am running into a problem with it. I have actually attained hair that at it's longest is right at nipple length. However, not much of my hair is this long. Maybe 10%. It's "natural" layers in a ridiculous way. When it dries, for the most part, I have nice ringlet-locks, but I have these few really long hairs that end the ringlets in a sparse frizz ball-termination and look kind of odd (not good), to me at least.
I'm actually thinking that I need to trim the ends which would have the effect of giving me something closer to non-layered hair and would have the ensuing result of eliminating the bottom portion being frizz rather than nice curls. What do you think about this? You saw my update the last month. I have rather nice hair to a point, and then it diminishes into a paltry few strands near the ends. I have the natural V, but with my hair texture, when dry, it looks all wrong.
*Hey Matt. Thanks for the compliment and yes, I am lucky that genetics has bestowed upon me what it has.
*I don't think you hair (what I have seen of it) looks rediculous at all. No way! You merely have a different hair type that will react as it should naturally to what it is, and all for the better too. That is the beauty of long hair. No matter what, the hair type we were born with always suits us A+ 100% perfect! Of course, it is so hard not to be ones own worst critic. But others don't see this at all so I wouldn't give it a worry in the world.
*If the ends of your hair are so narrow and fine as to be causing you troubles, a trim "dusting" would be for the better to assure yourself that those ends are blunt enough. In your case, it might be a good idea of what you are thinking, but I could not tell unless seing the hair close-up in person. (Are you prepared for the drive?) LOL Actually, from the photos I didn't notice of what you speak and all looked as if it was making good progress.
Take care Matt and all the best-
Justin~
It's cool to see how hair can turn out when let it do it's own thing. It's great you encourage other people to try the same route and hear about other results.
Hey Vincent! Thanks so much for the great compliment. A true gentleman you are, with a great mane I might add in the making. :-) At my age, if I can be of any encourgement to others I will feel glad that I could be of some help.
Take care Vincent and hope you are having a great day.
Justin~
This is actually a very interesting thread.
thanks a lot for posting, Justin!
I was wondering how my hair shape would look in future.
However with my curls I don't know how much the V-shape or U-shape will hold. Right now its a pyramid shape, that's all I know. LOL
Shawn
Hey Shawn
Glad you liked this posting and I rather thought that there would be some that might find it of interest. With your type of hair, it will work its own magic, but in a different way. However, in the end it WILL look sensational!
Take care-
Justin~
Hey Justin, looking superb there, a real testament to the natural way for sure.
You look like you've been working out too, good physique!!
Take care, and thanks for your interesting post.
Cheers Dave
Hey Dave
THanks! :-) Sometimes seeing is the best of all, for to just talk about what the hair can do leaves only an image of what(?)may be in the the mind. And lucky for those that have a mind left as I am still looking for my own which dropped-out years ago! :-0
Yes, I work-out every day for 30 minutes, not to kill myself, but merely to make sure circulation is at its' best. And, it HAS been doing wonders for my condition which is very well under control now.
All the best-
Justin~
Hi Justin,
AWESOME, my friend!!! Your mane looks simply TERRIFIC!!!!
Running off to work now, as usual, --- seems I always run late; but, just had to check the hyperboard before I left (lol)!!...
Take care!
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Oh you such a buisy boy Ken!
V or U, your hair looks fantastic as always Justin! I'm guessing you're right in the sense that your frontal hair is catching up with possible terminal-length hairs but for a gent of 60 years, growing a healthy greyless brown mane well past your belt is a hell of an achievement. I have very similar hair to yours in color/texture and I cant wait until I can say it's similar to yours in length as well. Your definately a constant inspiration and I STILL can't get over the fact that you're 60 lol. Take care Justin and thanks for sharing.
