Hello! I'm back here again, and I'm happy with my hair right now. That is, except for one major thing that has been bugging me. My bangs will NOT stay flat. At all. I try a lot of things that don't involve heat, and not many work. Any tips on this? I included a picture as well. This has been nagging at me for a while now. Please answer ASAP. Thanks guys!
Keep in mind, it looks good in this picture. Normally its hanging out a little more horizontal and long. I do NOT plan on parting my hair to the side at the current moment, I'm just growing down to the top of my eyes or so. But I can't do this without flattening it. Thanks a ton!
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but your bangs aren't going to stay flat unless you put on baseball cap or hood or something like that. Back when I had as much hair as you do and would let it get longer, it looked the same way. You might try some hair spray or gel, but that's a stop-gap measure at best.
How long are you planning on leting your hair get? I will lie down eventually, but this means getting past the stage you're at now.
Your hair probably doesn't look bad even when you think it does. Remember that others' negativity shapes our own self-perceptions, sometimes for the worse. Didn't you tell about the guys who said you needed to get it cut a while back? This is the type thing I'm talking about. Just let your hair be; it may not lie down perfectly (whatever that may mean!), but it's your hair; be proud of it.
Thanks Matt!
I'm planning on growing the side parts and back parts of my hair down to a little above my shoulders. I plan on growing my bangs a little past the eyes, and maybe part it a little. I hope the curling up of my bangs won't affect that, though I'm guessing it will.
Hey Nate, my hair is roughly the length of yours right now. It's hard to judge because I think mine is more wavey. However I have a hard time too getting my bangs to stay down, particularly after I wash my hair. Actually, that's probably the only time it really misbehaves it seems and I haven't the slightest idea why. It just becomes kind of puffy and very difficult to control immediately after shampooing, even when followed up with conditioner. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyway, for now though, I'm doing what some of the others have suggested and weighing it down with beanie hats and such. But yeah, just to let you know I'm roughing through the same stage with you bro. We'll make it through to desired length in the end. =) Oh and Matt, thanks for the insight and encouragement!
There are a few options, using gel or a hat or bandana will hold the hair out off your face.
Once you hair gets longer it will settle down more, so I guess there isn't much you can do.
Oh I know the suffering with bangs!
It takes a LONG time for them to stay flat, especially with curly or wavy hair!
I have curly hair and my bangs still stick out at a horrible angle (even after nearly 16 months of growing them). The fact is I wear glasses, so the bangs stick outwards as well at a more horizontal angle. I know I have to live with this for a while, until the hair is heavy enough to start behaving.
So patience is key. Try gelling them, or ignoring them! At your stage I wore a lot of hats (beanies, bandannas, etc..) because just looking in a mirror used to make me SO frustrated!
Good luck
Shawn
