Hallo!
I don't know, if you remember me, since I don't post very often, but since October 20th (evening/night) I've been growing my hair for three years. I'm really happy with the results...back then I never consciously thought about growing my mair so long, but I'm glad that I did.
There are also some not so good news:
- In summer 2008 someone tried to cut off my hair when I was drunk and he even succeeded according to a few strands...fortunately it's not too visible.
- The drinking water here in Wales seems to contain more chlorine than in my home-country (Germany) which would not be good for hair.
But the best news is that hair always grows and so I want to grow my hair to terminal length and keep it there for the rest of my life and beyond (I also enjoy shorter hair-styles on other people (and did on myself when my hair was in the "awkward-stage"), but prefer long hair on myself).
Feel free to have a look at my gallery aswell. The pics were taken in a wood next to the Wye Valley on October 21st.
I only have limited access to the internet, so please don't mind if I can't reply to every comment.
BTW: Kevin, Congratulations for your birthday (I'm sorry for being so late)....
Also good luck for all other hair-growers!
@John.B: It would indeed be great if we could manage to meet up in Great Britain, as you said in your update...I hope that e-mailing each other this time works.
Thank you for every comment!
Cheers,
Herb2992
Hi Herb2992
Your hair looks really snazzy, with all those curls. Definitely keep growing your hair. A person who attempted to cut you hair is a cruel person, and I don't like those people. As for chlorine in water, try using a water filter to attach to your faucet.
Regardless
Thank you for the compliments and the tip.
It was indeed a cruel thing having been done to me, but I'm mostly over it now. I learned my lesson...you now, sometimes I was (an honestly also now sometimes I am) a bit paranoid about my hair, but he fear doesn't help. You should focus on what you want - keeping your mane - and build appropriate strategegies to achieve that - but not minding it _too_ much. Negative thinking on the other hand (thinking about what you do not want) can make things worse. At least it's a much nicer attitude and so much more comfortable to think positively.
I thought the same about water filters and had a little look on the internet. They don't seem to be very cheap, but would be worth the money if the situation about chlorine would be really bad. I have to see how it goes on, I shampoo my hair as less as possible, the sebum safes the hair a bit from the chlorine. Anyway, I saw some other long hairs here and they don't seem to bother about it too much, so maybe it's not too bad.
As you come from the USA you probably have a lot of chlorine in the water. Do you use a filter?
Thank you.
Cheers,
Herb2992
To answer the water question, yes, there is chlorine in the water supply where I live (Seattle), and it make the water taste a little weird. For drinking water, we actually have bottles delivered to us, and they taste far better than tap water. We don't use a filter, although we did at one point. I shampoo my hair every 4-7 days, and water down my hair every other day.
Anyway, the hair statement that you gave me made a lot of sense. To my point of view, it gets easier for me to be pleased with my hair when it is closer to my desired length.

wow Herb thats some beautiful curls dude! great length and for 3 years thats certaintly a long time to grow ones hair! congrads and keep it growing :)
Looks awesome, Herb! Those are some awesome curls. Sorry to hear about the idiot trying to cut off your hair, but at least it was only a couple bits. Hope all is well. Keep your great locks growing! =)

Awesome length and curls! Your hair also looks very healthy. Keep it growing!
Hallo Herb, you hair is simply stunning. I am seriously jealous...not really. Congratulation!
Cheers,
Max
Greetings.
Your hair looks fantastic, Herb. That is a lot of length for only 3 years. (I looked at the image showing your hair stretched in back showing the true length.) Keep growing it for sure.
Scott
Thank you!
I think the longest hairs are about 52 or 53 cm long at the moment, regarding that my hair grows circa 17.5 cm per year.
I read on the internet that hair grows the fastest in the age between 16 and 22 or something like that (I'm 19).
You have a really awesome mane, too!
Cheers,
Herb2992
Your hair grows faster than average for sure. 15 cm per year is actually about average for most people. My longest measured shed strand was 115 cm. I saved it. I have many hairs a meter in length right now. I have never measured how fast mine grows, but it probably grows about as fast as your hair.

Hi Herb,
I have to say that your 3 years of hair growth has been a tremendous success:)Your natural curls are just amazing and look wonderful on you.I'm glad to hear though that the attempt by that vicious person to cut your hair while you were unaware basically failed. If someone had tried that on me I'd be mighty POed!LOL.I also checked out your gallery as you took great pictures to show off you hair. Thanks fo posting and hope to see more of you here my friend.Cheers
Mark
Hi Herb,
It's nice to see your update as I wondered how your hair was coming along. It looks amazing I might add, very healthy and
in good condition. Thanks for the birthday wish by the way.
Hopefully you and John B can meet up for a pint at some point and of course pics to be posted of the event. (grin)
Hope you enjoy yourself in Wales and the Welsh can be a real
laugh so have fun.
Cheers
Kevin
Thanks for your positive feedback.
That's a good idea, hopefully we can realise it.
I havn't met many Welsh speaking people so far, but the signs in Welsh and the names of some villages can be quite "funny", because they seem so unusual (like 1 vowel VS 8 consonants)
Cheers,
Herb
Hi Herb,
Of course I remember you, and how could anyone forget those awesome curls you are blessed with. I am glad that you are hanging in there and keeping it growing, since long and healthy curly hair is something to be proud of. Hopefully, we will see you around more often.
Take care, and keep it growing!
David

Keep it growing and I hope you don't run into crazy people who try to cut your hair again.
Happy with the results? I can well see why. Your long hair is gorgeous and befits you just perfectly. So glad you shared this update with all of us. Keep it growing and best wishes for even more long hair success.

Yes, I remember you; you come from Germany and are in Britain now.
Great hair, I am envious! A very artistic picture with the leaves framing you.
Matt B.
Thank you!
I think we have similar types of hair, yours seems to create similar curls - it looks indeed great. I apreciate that men like you grow long hair, as I want to have my long hair when I get older (and maybe bald), too.
Cheers,
Herb2992
Thank you very much for the huge feed-back!
I apreciate every comment and thanks for all the compliments about my hair and the photo. The mlhh is a really great board.
Best wishes,
Herb2992
Please don't mind if I didn't answer to your comment seperately. As my internet access and my time are a bit limited I had to select.
At Regarless' post I left a small comment about the incident and my current attitude towards my hair - maybe it can help someone.
I admire the beauty of long hair and identify with it.
And good luck to you all at growing your hair! It looks indeed great (I belong to those who think anyone can grow long hair if he wants/prefers it).
Cheers,
Herb2992
Looks great man, those are some rockin' curly locks! Stay in touvh now!
Awesome update Herb! 3 years is quite an achievement in growth! Your hair looks excellent and you're blessed with the curly texture (great for power metal hair). Many people, including women, will more than likely envy your hair man!
Thanks for sharing,
-Phil
Great locks, Herb. I hope mine hang as well when I get to the 3 year mark, though at the the rate I am growing, I doubt I'll be that long by then. Kudos to you and your awesome hair.
Cheers!
