I just washed my hair and beard and took two photos showing the length of both. My hair is about the same length as it has been for the last five years. My beard has reached about full length now, too. The longest hairs are a foot long.
Scott
That is bloody impressive! Probably the longest I've ever seen of either!
my website
This may surprise you, but there are other guys here with hair even longer than mine. EdG is walking next to me on the right and his hair is mid calf length. He appears to be about 2 inches taller than me in the image. Cameras don't always show things as they really are. (I am 1 inch taller than him.) The one thing you can be sure of is that his hair is quite a bit longer than mine at mid calf length. (My hair reaches the top of my knees.)
I almost surely have the best combination of both long beard and long hair, though.
Scott
Very nice, Scott. I like the way your beard is one color, your hair another; it creates an interesting contrast. Maybe you can get some more length out of your beard over the next while. Have you ever tried a braid or two for your beard? I imagine that would look very cool.
MB
Hi Matt, I have braided my beard. It has to be done in 2 pigtail braids. The hair on the sides won't stay in a single center braid. I will have to do a beard braid photo soon.
Scott
Hi Scott
Wow... I think this might be the first time I ever seen a pic of you with your hair down! You look so different than when its tailed up like you normally wear it.Its too bad you can wear it loose all the time but I understand why as it would just be vulnerable to tangles, especially if its breezy outdoors. That's why I keep mine tailed most of the time too and mines only at waist length. Its also interesting the colour difference between your head hair and your beard.Hey I have that same thing going on too.LOL.Anyway great pics my friend as its nice to see new ones from you.Hope your having an awesome weekend out there in CA.Cheers!
Mark
Hi Mark, I keep my hair tied up abou 99% of the time to prevent severe knotting and tangling. My hair is fine and fragile. I know of a guy in Berkeley with gorgeous blond hair at mid butt length. I took a close look at his hair. It is coarse and very durable, very much like asian hair, but blond. His hair does not tangle. If my hair was like his, I would keep it loose most of the time too.
Scott
Scott;
Thanks for that update....very impressive (intimidating? HA!) length and as others have said, the colour contrast is great.
I think having your hair down makes you look younger...
Take Care
Walter
I love Walter's appropriation of the commonly used acronym and will, thus, echo his reply.
Thanks for sharing, Scott.
Hi Walter, My hair reaches the top of my knees. The hair on my head has retained most of its colour. My beard hair has lost most of its colour. I wish I could wear my hair down more, but it knots and tangles, so I can't. I would have to trim off 2/3 of my length to wear it down most of the time. I am not willing to do this.
Scott
Hello Scott !
Great new pictures of you ! I couldn't stand to see the old ones :D
Interesting to see that your hair and beard are totally different, by color and texture. And to see that you don't have any gray hair ! (okay, the beard is compensating)
How long is your beard when pulled straight ?
Take care,
Vivien
Hi Vivien, my beard has had gray hair for many years. The longest hair in my beard is about 33 cm long. The longest shed strand from my head is 115 cm long. I saved it in a ziplock bag. I have many actively growing hairs on my head over a meter in length.
Scott
Hi Scott,
What a pleasure to get an update from you, and your hair is such an inspiration for everyone, and you are blessed with great genes to be able to grow it to such a long length. Your hair is a deeper red colour than I remember, and is contrast to the colour of your amazing beard.
Keep everything growing!
David
It was time for new images of my hair. I do have a lot of red colour in my hair. I probably got the hair genes from my mom, including the red colour. She had gorgeous long hair.
Scott
Wow thats certainly an amazing length there Scott, I would worry in case it caught in my bicycle wheels.
~ Dave
My hair is over a meter in length. Don't worry, I tie it up to keep it safe when cycling. (see image)
Scott
Hi Scott,
Thanks for posting those amazing update pictures.
You certainly have an amazing length of hair there and you can see it's really in great condition and the natural colours really stand out. Your certainly a great inspiration for people growing their hair and beards out for sure.
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John, it was time for some new images. It is very difficult to get all of my hair length in a single image, so I took two of them. My hair currently ties into a ponytail a meter in length. The longest strands in my beard are about 1/3 of that.
I hope to continue to be an inspiration to others here in reaching their long hair goals.
Scott
Impressive Scott!
Say, when did you first start on your long hair journey?
Yes indeed, impressive.
Bruce
I started growing my hair in 1992 and never looked back. I could have gotten it to this length in maybe 6 or 7 years if I had known how to care for it. Much was trial and error. I have had my current length for about 5 years.
Scott
Wow, Scott! That's a lot of hair!!! Very impressive and truly an inspiration for all of us.
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
PS: How many vacuum cleaners do you go through in a year? LOL
Growing My Hair Out...Again! Progress Pics
Yeah it is a meter in length, with some strands even longer. I will keep it growing for sure.
I have not used a vacuum for years. My house inside looks more like a lab than a house. I do need to clean it. Too much stuff in the way right now to use a vacuum. My estimate is that it would take 3 or 4 strands of my hair to disable the beater bar in the average vacuum cleaner.
Scott
Just SENSATIONAL Scott! WOW! You have beautiful long hair indeed and that beard is something to write home about. Yeah!
What a wonderful surprise this posting was of one of the true masters of the science of Longhair.
Now, if this update doesn't inspire others, then I don't know what would.
BRAVO!
Justin~
Thanks, Justin. It was time to do a couple of new images. Your hair is fantastic too. I think you could grow it to classic length, considering how thick it is at the ends.
Bill has a better beard than me now, but he no longer posts here.
Scott
I'ld be a happy hair farmer if I could achieve the length of both your mane and beard. The mane I'm getting closer to, and with determination I will accomplish the beard.
Looking great Scott!
Karsten
Thanks, Karsten. Your hair is very thick right to the ends at your waistline. There is a good possibility that you could grow it nearly twice as long as it is now. Your beard is coming along well, just let it grow.
Your original creative hair photos never cease to amaze me.
Scott
Hey Scott, what a great pic! Your hair and beard are certainly amazing. Wish my beard would grow like that. Certain parts of it will grow long and in other areas it only gets to about 2 inches max... Thanks for sharing and motivating.
Cheers,
Max
Hi Max, I got lucky on both accounts. I got good hair genes. Your hair is steadily growing and will get longer in due time.
Beard hair length is zonal, even for me. My soul patch (hair below lower lip) only grows to about 1.5 inches. Ancestry has a lot of effect on beard growth. Men with Native American ancestry usually can't grow long thick beards.
Scott
Hi Scott
You have a really cool mix of colours going on between your beard and your hair. It all looks in good shape too, my compliments to you.
Also how has the shedding been as you had some concerns a short while back?
Kevin
Hi Kevin, my hair is in reasonably good shape. I do get some breakage, though. Even so, I am not going to trim the ends.
My shedding has is slowly declining but is still a bit more than usual. My ponytail seems to be as thick as it was several months before, so I am getting a lot of new growth along with the shedding. Even my beard was shedding a lot.
I hope your hair is doing well, Kevin.
Scott
Impressive photos, Scott!
I know you have said in the past that you are at terminal length. How long did it take you to get to that point?
It took about 10 years, but it could have been done in 6 or 7, if I had known all the pitfalls in advance. I started growing it in 1992. MLHH came into existance in 1997. I learned about MLHH in maybe 2002.
Scott
and found that my hair has gained another 2 inches in length. It is difficult to define terminal length in my situation. A change in hair my care care routine added 2 inches. The gain came from tying my hair up to keep from sitting on it when riding my racing bike. (see image) Sitting on it was causing more breakage. If I could stop all breakage, my hair would likely reach mid calf length. All of my really long hairs (the 3 feet plus ones) have broken tips.
Scott
wow Scott thats some long hair my friend! how long did it take to grow that before your at terminal? and half my facial still wont grow yet no mustache or mouth hair barely grows only side burns and a amish beard i can lol
It took about 10 years to get super long. In the last 5 years I have gained about 2 inches. Terminal length is hard to predict. I considered it to be there 5 years ago.
Scott
Thanks for sharing a pic with your hair loose, looks very good.
To bad you can't wear it loose a lot because of the tangles.
I had just washed and dried it, so I took a photo. I wish I could keep it loose, but I would not be able to have it nearly so long, then.
Scott
Truly amazing length, Scott. I like the shot from above. It gives one a very cool perspective on your hair.
Mouse
Thanks, it took a long time to grow it. I am trying to do some more original and creative shots.
Scott
Hi Scott. Your hair is nice and long. As for beards, I chose not to grow it out. By the way, you probably are at terminal length since it did not grow for the last five years.
Regardless
I thought I had reached terminal length. I checked back 5 years and found that my hair has gained about 2 inches due to a change in how I care for it. This is only a 5% gain which makes it hard to notice. All of my really long hair strands (3 feet long plus) have broken tips. If my hair was not so fragile, and was free of breakage, it would probably reach the middle of my calves.
Scott
ULTIMATE HAIR! 'Nuff said! : P
Neil : D
If I could reduce my shedding, it would grow even longer. According to a thread further up, there is mention of using a vinegar rinse resulting in much less shedding. I will have to give it a try to see if I can get it to grow longer still.
Scott
Scott, Your mane and beard are absolutely beautiful!
- Oren
Wow, Oren. I really like your new avatar. You too, have lovely hair and a lovely beard too. How long is your hair now? I can't tell in that photo.
Scott
Scott,
Thanks! My hair is lower back length. The longest shed so far was about 26 inches.
- Oren
Hi Scott,
Thanks for sharing the photos. Your hair is certainly a constant inspiration to me and so many others here. I hope that your summer shedding has settled down. I think mine finally has some.
Jason
That is some hair from what I can see. Do you have a complete photo of your hair untied (nothing in it) showing the length like it has been the past 5 years? Pete
