Hey, i just discovered this board. Im starting to gorw my hair long but it it begining to become a real hassle as i have thick, frissy and somewhat curly hair. Both my parents and other people i know are starting to hassle me but im determined to have long hair. Currently my hair is about 6 inches long if i stretch it out. What is the best way to restrain it so that it looks neat. I've tried parting it down the middle, brushing it foward but it just looks plain messy. I was considering getting a cloth headband (the type which goes sort of over your head, almost like 1/4 of a bandanna) but im not sure if this would look stupid. Helps me!
Thanks in advance for any help
Welcome and you are at the right place for encouragement.
Guys with hair of your texture have a special challenge while it is growing out (awkward stage)....but in the end, curly heads have incredible long hair.....browse through the users directory for some inspiration.
Good Luck

Hi WhiteWolf,
welcome to the hyperboard, and you will find this to be a wonderful communuity filled with kind and supportive people.
You have a great head of curly hair, and I am glad that you are hanging in there and continuing to grow it, since long and healthy curly hair can look awesome! Your hair will soon be long enough to put in a tail, and a headband should do the trick for you in the meantime.
Welcome aboard,
David
Welcome to the board.
Curly hair is diffucult to grow out, but will looks very good once long. Glad your standing your ground, keep doing that and gravity will get hold of your hair.
In the meanwhile you can use hats or bandana's to keep it down.
growing wavy/frizzy/curly hair is always very difficult until you get past the awkward stage. all you need is patience, a real lot of patience! I know it doesn't sound like much help, but if you want advice, find a new intense hobby and forget about your hair for the next year or so :P. meanwhile! wear hats, headbands, bandannas, you name it. that's the best thing you can use until your hair is long enough, and the hats will keep your hair hidden so you won't look at it in a mirror and get really annoyed with how it's behaving.
hope that helped a bit :)
I'm still in the awkward stage with curly hair and I can assure you even though it's very difficult to deal with now, it definitely looks much better than it did 6 months ago! :)
good luck. patience is key!!

Hey WhiteWolf! Welcome to the board. I don't know what to tell you about restraining it without the use of chemicals that can potentially be damaging. Having said that, I think you would look good in dreads. Ever consider that? Just a thought. Good luck on your longhair journey!
Take care and keep it growin'!

Growing My Hair Out...Again! Progress Pics
Welcome to the community WhiteWolf. What I would say was already well put by Shypii90. If you look at his pics or at least his avatar he's the expert on very curly hair and how to deal with it.
Good luck and good growing.
