HI,
I'm a straight male who is trying to grow his hair long. Whenever I tell somebody that I'm getting a ponytail, a common response is "Oh that's gay". I don't think so. Afterall, look at all the rock stars with long hair. Anyway, I wanted to know if you thought more gay men had long hair than straight men. It doesn't really matter to me, I'm going to grow it out anyway.
John
Actually i thought most gays had short hair.. all that i know do
All the gays that you know have short hair. That's an interesting statement. Just because the men who are gay who you happen to know are gay have short hair, does not mean men you know with long hair are not gay. It just means you don't know whether they are gay. That seems to be a bunch of babble, but read it again. It makes complete sense!
ARRGGGHHHH!!!!
This again! Noooo!!!
John, hair length is no indicator of sexual orientation. It is an indicator of hair length. That's it.
Most gay men look like most straight men. Sometimes they're a bit more conscious of it than otherwise. Sometimes they're not. Some of the more "obvious" gay men have buzzcuts that would do a Marine proud. So, does that mean that anyone who looks like a Marine is gay? Hardly.
It's been my experience that most gay men prefer short hair for themselves as that makes them look like everyone else and therefore "belong" with the majority. That is the same reason why most straight men have short hair as well.
There are very, very few gay men with Longhair. Too few for my tastes, but that's the way it is...

If gays have long hair and straights have short, then most likely bisexuals have mid-length hair.
Just kidding . . .

of course the Bible's Corinthinans verse (which actually doesn't prohibit long hair on a guy or short hair on a girl)). Ignore these
comments and grow it out if you wish!!!!
If this is supposedly such a "gay" thing, I sure wish I could find some of those men. I hardly ever find a gay guy with long hair.
no doubt... I'm a gay longhaired dude, and I've been searching high and low for another gay longhaired guy like me. I'm more of a rocker/biker type and really don't fit into the stereotypical mold of "gay". I'm beginning to think I'm the only gay longhaired dude here in FL:>(
This prejudice must stem from the 70s, when for a while it was in fact quite fashionable with the rock and pop scene to toy with homo- or bisexuality - remember David Bowie or Marc Bolan, and of course it was the time, when long hair was ubiquitous in the "progressive" or "avantgardistic" settings.
When you look at photos of 70s Christopher Street Day parades, you might see a good deal of longhairs... but around 1980, this drastically changed, with a new cult of machismo among gays, the muscular moustached crewcut sado-maso leather fetish clone (awwwwh!) appeared on the scene - and this is gay mainstream for the last 20 years.
Since about 1995, gay longhairs are re-emerging, but most of this revival takes place in the States... here in Europe, you see hardly gays, especially those younger than 30, with hair longer than 2"...

John,
I just want to let you know that as a gay male...mostly short cuts are the trend..i am growing my hair out and I see others doing the same thing. "That's gay" is a really stupid expression but it is really in reference more to something being stupid rather than being "gay"....They are implying that a ponytail is a dumb look rather than necessarily "gay." Now if you said "I want to be an interior designer" and that said "isn't that kind of gay" well then you know what they are referring to.
You will be fine...grow your hair out....most gay men like short hair anyway...so the guys will not be hitting on you...except some of the men from this board!

HI,
Most gay men I know have short very clean cut hair. I would do what you want because this life is too short. I like long hair on a man and I am a woman, so go for it!
That's because you have rednecked, articulate-challenged friends who use "gay" as a derogatory term for anything they don't happen to agree with.
