Hello everyone, old and new to the board.
Because I said I would, I'm posing a picture of me in my brand new great kilt. Got it in the mail today, just in time for Halloween, and of course for renaissance festivals for every summer in the future!
It was very difficult to turn a 5 ft. by 15 ft. piece of fabric into what you see here, especially all alone and for my first time, but I tried my best.
Here I am from the front:
And the back:
Anyone else on the board have a kilt?
Peace and God Bless,
Rome
Looks great!!! I've worn a kilt a time or three.

Hey Rome!
That's quite a cool outfit you've got there and that sword rules!I have to admit over the years of being here on the mlhh I've noticed there are quite a few members who are into kilts and going to Renaissance Festivals.Never been to one myself but someday if I knew where one was held I'd like to take one in.Anyway great pics and your hair looks awesome too my friend. You ROCK!Cheers

Hi Rome,
It is always great to hear from you, and of course your hair is looking fabulous these days.
I have never worn a kilt, although with my Scottish heritage, I should try some day, and I have been teased at times about taking the plunge. My Mom was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and then moved to London, where she lived most of her childhood. My Dad met her during WWII, and then then moved to Canada after they were married.
Take care,
David
Hi Rome,
Great pictures there and a great look and the hair is looking in good condition to. Do have fun tonight and don't wave the sword at too many kids, not that is matters as it's Halloween and what's a few nightmares! I presume you wearing things in the true Scottish style!
Cheers,
John.B
hey there Rome...great look for you!!what clan are you or which is the tartan from? i am part of clan MacLeod and clan Mac Donald by way of my mom's parents...all 100% Scottish...Gordy..or Gordon in the mother land!
Rome !!
Great to see your post....it has been a long time since we have heard from you !
Your hair is looking fantastic with that wonderful colour and the kilt is sharp !!
Thanks for sharing and Happy Halloween !!
Walter
The kilt suits you with the long hair and the beard.
Watch out you don't cut you hair with that sword ;)
Hi Rome,
I don't own a kilt; but, my last name being Scottish (Gourley), there is supposed to be a family kilt, or so I've been told... and some day I'll even check it out to see what it looks like (lol)!!
Lookin' good there, --- and also thanks for the info you gave me about that state park in Upstate NY (from your previous post that had the nice pics of you w/ your g/f)... Keep it growin'!

Anyone called Gourley is entitled to wear the Duke of Fife tartan, which was commissioned by the 1st Duke of Fife to wear at a royal wedding. Anyone who comes from Fife can wear it, and this is apparently where the name Gourley originates. Here are links to a couple of digital swatches:

PS: By wearing it you are quite posssibly pledging allegiance to the Duke of Fife, LOL!
I got a tan mocker and a brown workman utilikilts

That's very cool. having attended many Ren Faires I've seen many kilts and yours looks excellent.
Great post Rome thanks
Kevin
I have a couple of kilts, but they aren't great kilts, just the usual kind that don't extend over the upper body.
For Halloween I wore my Irish National kilt with my caubeen (funny looking Irish hat). Although the caubeen is different from any Scottish hat and I have a shamrock on it, and I have another shamrock on my sporran, at least one person thought I was supposed to be Scottish, but I suppose that's inevitable. I don't have a picture to post, it's still somewhere in my wife's digital camera.
Looks like your great kilt is probably in the Black Watch/Campbell tartan, but as you probably know, tartan patterns didn't represent anything in particular when you go as far back as the period the SCA covers. I think folding a great kilt each time you put it on sounds too much like hard work.
You're looking good, though.
You did a good job on making that kilt, and your long red hair looks fantastic. You certainly are ready to do the renaissance faire for sure.
