I am relatively young (20 years old). Do you think it is negligible that I made a dumb mistake and cut my hair, on the grounds that I still have quite a few years to have my hair long? I feel like I've thrown away so much time (4 years) by cutting it short and having to wait about the same amount of time to have the length I had. However, this could be I am young and this seems like an eternity for me. I am just looking for reassurance I suppose.
hey Mike you got plenty of time brother im almost 22 and im at 19 1/2 months of growth and im def not balding so yea lol plenty of time like i said, just keep stronger this time and dont cut that awesome mane! :) just let it grow and flow dude and youll be back in no time
Bar a fatal accident or going bald really early I would say that you in the prime period with an excellent change to grow your hair long.
From what I've learnt from research from books and internet sources from the ages of 16-22 your hair grows the fastest, and is at it's thickest from the ages of 16-25. Your age of 20 is bang in the middle of the primest period for growing out hair.
Hair thins out naturally with age and slows down slightly in growth rate after your 20's with a loss of around 4,000 hair strands every 10 years afterwards. (without necessary going bald)
And another thing - cutting your hair short seems to have reconfirmed to you that your hair being long is very important to you -
Best,
Duncan
Regret is natural for many decisions in life- and we here won't hold your past decisions against you. You're out of childhood, and high school, etc., but you're not old, no, so don't get all stogy and fogey on us! ;)
There are lots on this board who have wished they had started growing sooner than they did. The thing is, they went forward with it. So grow on, and share your journey forward with us. As with your hair, other goals in your life will take a few years to mature as well.
Peace and Growth!

Mistakes are only dumb if you knew better or you didn't learn from them. There is always time. If you want long hair, just don't cut it!
"...However, this could be I am young and this seems like an eternity for me. I am just looking for reassurance I suppose..."
Well Then, Rest Assured.....and don't stress.....go on about having the fun and adventure that 20 year old guys have. Your hair will come back

I didn't start growing mine until I was almost 40, and now have it down to my waist. You've got plenty of time, so just take care of it and let it grow.

Hi Mike,
When I cut off my long hair back in Y2K (it was waist-length at the time), I went through the same emotions, --- the only difference being: instead of being a young man at the time this happened, I was already well into my 40s; plus, I had been growing it out during the '90s for a total of 9 years. The feeling of losing 9 years of growth was an overwhelming feeling of loss sometimes, --- and the fact that I wouldn't see my mane that long again until I would be somewhere into my ***50s*** absolutely terrified and depressed me!
Well, I am now 55, and my hair is even longer than the length that I had it before that stupid Y2K cut!!!! Age is just a number, anyway: best to just move on w/ your life, and try to learn from our mistakes as human beings, not dwelling too much over what we've lost in the past; but, instead, over the wisdom and other things we've gained ("easy to say, harder to do", I know, --- but, just sharing what helps to focus on)...
Enjoy your re-growth experience, and make this 2nd time around even more fun than the first! I didn't see your original post explaining about your haircut; but, in any case, rest assured that the feelings you are going through are completely understandable. It's just a matter of figuring out how best to move forward now with other aspects of your life, not focussing too much on your hair; but, just letting it grow, grow grow... and then before you know it, it will be longer and better than ever!!!

The best advice is be positive and remember you have grown your hair our once before and it looked great so you've been on this journey before. So patience and within time as it grows I'm sure you will feel so much better.
Keep it growing.
Cheers,
John.B
You've got enough time indeed to grow it back, and this time around you know you really want it long an will never cut it again.
