I've heard from different websites that hair grows 1 inch per month and 1/2 inch per month, which is it? Does your age matter? I'm 14. I want to grow my hair down to my nose and part it in the middle by August (when I start high school). I'd like to grow it all the way to my shoulders but my parents won't let me. They say people judge you by your hair, which is stupid. I don't really care what other people think but they do. So do you think I can grow at least 3 inches in 6 months? More?
Thanks,
Corey
Everybody is different, but for the average person, ON average, your hair grows half an inch(1/2 an inch). So, 3 inches by 6 months should be just about right, who knows, might be more or less

That sounds about right. Seems like most folks grow about a half inch per month - a little more or less is determined by heredity. Keep your hair well groomed and as it grows, the 'rents may adjust. Good luck.
The AVERAGE rate of scalp growth (which is the fastest growth rate of all types of hair) is about 1/2 inch a month. There will be variations depending upon the person, the time of year, the gender, etc.
Growth rates vary by age, also.
Below is a brief table of hair growth rates defined for people of different age and by the region of the body where the growth rate analysis was made (after Myers 1951). Typically, females will have slightly faster growing scalp hair than males of the same age but slower growing hair elsewhere such as on the leg.
Daily growth rate for scalp hair (mm)
Pre puberty 0.41
Adolescent/young adult 0.30
Mature adult 0.34
Retirement age 0.32
The long hairs of the scalp have the fastest rate of hair growth whereas the short hairs as in the eyebrow have the slowest growth rate.

Seasonal Variations:
British Journal Dermatology 1991 Feb;124(2):146-51
Various parameters of hair growth were determined every 28 days for 18 months in 14 healthy Caucasian men aged 18-39 with indoor occupations in Sheffield, U.K. (latitude 53.4 degrees N).
In the scalp, the proportion of follicles in anagen (growth stage) reached a single peak of over 90% in March, and fell steadily to a trough in September. The number of shed hairs reached a peak around August/September, when least follicles were in anagen. At this time the average loss of hairs was about 60 per day, more than double that during the preceding winter.
The rate of growth of the beard was lowest in January and February and increased steadily from March to July to reach a peak about 60% above the winter level.
The rate of growth of thigh hair showed a similar pattern though with less pronounced differences. No seasonal fluctuations in finger- or toenail growth were detected.
