Sorry if this has been brought up by me many times before, but as you can see in the pic it's those hairs just behind the ears that are annoying me quite alot, and i don't really know if those hairs will ever grow long enough to go in the tail?
It doesn't look as ratty on right side, it's just this left side that bothers me the most.
Maybe i could just snap of those small hairs with a haircutting scissor instead of shaving.
They hopefully will. Most of mine have, with the exception of a few stragglers.
Looks fine to me and never shaved them..eh trimmers!
From my experience, they likely won't grow long enough; mine are really curly, so I get mine buzz-clipped when I go in for a trim (every few months).

I've also got some frizzy hairs over there, it doesn't bother me so I just let them there. If it does bother you you can shave them but you'll have to keep doing that.
Hi Simon
In the end, I think all would be best if you did what YOU want about those hairs. For myself, (and only because I personally like the look) I remove them with my beard-trimmer about once a month. Why? ONLY because I happen to like the look when my hair is in a ponytail rather than see a whole lot of scraggles of hairs that aren't going to amount to anything anyway. To me it is a much more "polished-look" this way. Please remember that I do this ONLY because of the times my hair is in a ponytail. If I never had my hair in a ponytail I wouldn't bother, but I DO like a variety of looks to long hair, and I am of the type that wants every look to look as best as possible. Why have nice longhair and have it look like a tattered rats nest? LOL :-)
My best to you Simon.

^^What he said.
If I wore my hair loose most of the time, I'd leave them alone. I gave them about two years to see if they'd eventually get long enough to tie back but they didn't, so I clipper them off every month or so and the same with the ones above my ears which also don't reach any appreciable length.
At the end of the day, it's up to you and a lot of that depends on how you plan to wear your hair. If you want a slick, sleek look, clipper them or, if you want to go for the shaggy look, let them be. It's all good.
Thanks everyone who answered, i guess i'm gonna let them grow a bit more and if they'll never grow long enough to tail i think i'll just snip them off:)
