Well what do you know, I've got some pics that don't involve the bathroom mirror, LOL.
These were taken during evening court at an SCA event my barony held this last weekend.
Oops, forgot to mention that these were taken by a nice lady named Cecilia Jaeger
Society for Creative Anachronism.
I love to duel, swords, axes, staves, whatever. Me and a couple sparring buddies met with some SCA members in a local park once and although I was eager to join my friends thought it was too much trouble.
Well, they went off to collage or joined uncle sam. So now I'm anxious to find new sparring partners, I haven't seen them in the park again.
Hey, I've included some pics you might like.
These swords are not SCA approved (not Rattan) they're oak. I know, it splits, but that's what I can get my hands on.
The other pic is me with a busted head long before the invention of helmets. That's my young buddy Nathan. He was so proud, I usually whip his butt. In the back is my only long haired friend, don't know what ever happened to him.
I know the busted head pic is a little extreme, I got no excuse.
Some may comment of the stupidity of it, I agree and I offer no excuses for that either. But my buddy claims an IQ of 160, he may be lying a bit but he is majoring in chemistry. Oh God.
Anyway, them fun times are past and I really want to find an SCA barony nearby. I promise to tone it down a bit. I can't seem to find the right place in the SCA site to locate them. Help me out Frodo.
Cool hair too, I didn't think it was that long!
Paul
I can't mess with youo too much, done some fairly stupid things in my time, including sparring with bokens with no pads.
The Society recently re-arranged their webpage. Try this page:
http://www.sca.org/geography/findsca.html#
Right under the heading "How do I find them?" is a link to locate a kingdom. Click on that link and put in your location, and it will tell you which kingdom you fall into, and should give you a link to that kingdom's website. From the kingdom site they should have a similar feature to find your local group. That's how I found my barony when I first moved to Maryland.
If you need any further help finding your group, drop me a line.
Cool pics JS, I am liking the full beard, is that now or a while ago? The full beard suits you well.
Cheers Dave
That was this last Saturday, the 15th. I keep hemming and hawing on the beard, some days I like the full beard, some days I feel like trimming it down to the goatee like my avatar. One of these days I'll make up my mind, lol. Thanks for the comment.
Great photos !!
We don't see too many unposed, candid shot like that.....excellent !
You hair is much longer than I had thought and the outfit is fantastic.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Yeah, she took some great shots of the entire court, and even more of the armored combat earlier in the day. I know you're a photography buff, if you'd like to see more of her work I can send you a link.
I know my avatar pic doesn't show the length very well, I figured with the size of the avatars, if I used one that showed the whole length you'd barely be able to see my face and tell who it was, lol.
As for the outfit, most of what you can see is the herald's tabard I was wearing. That has my barony's arms on the front, and the green emblems are the device for a herald. I had been serving in my position as baronial herald, standing behind the baron and baroness in court to make announcements, when they called me before them to receive an award.
"...I know you're a photography buff, if you'd like to see more of her work I can send you a link..."
I would love to see more of her work and your court. Just send an email through the MLHH system....
.....and Thank You very much.
Walter
Bravo for Cecilia!
Excellent Jim! I too, didn't realise your hair was that long. Good deal!
Bruce
Thanks, Bruce
Thanks for sharing this picture, the outfit looks great together with the longhair.
Great pictures and it's amazing what the SCA get up to and similar to the Sealed Knot here with their jausting, poles and muskets!
Cheers,
John.B
It's a little bit more complicated than that (having been in both organisations.) The Sealed Knot is a very fixed period historical re-enactment society based on the English Civil War, whereas the SCA covers a much wider timeframe and battles are only put on for the members rather than charging the general public. This is probably a bit simplistic; both groups have more to them than just hitting people for fun and/or profit...!!!

Hey JS...great pics! Your long hair and beard combo really work for you. Looks very good.
Cheers.
Max

Mark
Thanks to everyone that commented, they're much appreciated. I guess with all the "didn't know it was that long" comments, it's time for me to find a new avatar [grin]. I'll see what I can do.
