Prolly gonna donate again, last time I donated 15 inches... A few years ago! Hasn't turned gray yet, just my beard. Getting stringier though, not as full as it used to be...
Hey your hair still does look great but really, what is the point of this message??
Sad to hear you're gonna cut all that off and donate it.
Eh, your hair, do what you wish.
You know, I wanted to get a feel of what folks thought of donating... I've heard some nasty things about some of these places. Like, they'll take your hair for free, but they'll still charge cancer patients $1000, especially if they have insurance... I'm starting to have second thoughts... Anybody here get the same vibes?
---------------------------
Here is a radical and very original idea. Why not save your shed hairs and donate them instead? They are usable. You have lovely hair. Why trim it back to shoulder length? Donating shed strands will allow you to keep your hair at its current length, or grow even longer.
The image you see has enough of my shed hair strands to make at least 2 long hair wigs.
A good thing to remember here is that hair charities use only about 3% of the hair they get and toss the other 97%. They need money much more than they need hair.
Check out the site of Hair Religion. He is a valued member here and has a lot of additional information on hair charities.

Not ALL hair charities...
A new face, haven't seen you post before so welcome to mlhh.
Kevin
Shame! So why post if your going to cut? If it's for that so called "LOL" charity then I will laugh!
I hate to be a grinch, but I worked in a hospital for 20 years and...not that many people lose their hair from illness. Most people who lose hair to chemo grow it back within six months. For the amount of people who talk about donating hair, I have a hard time believing that there are that many recipients. Do they just throw the wig away after someone has worn it for a few months?
Also, your hair is beautiful. Keep it and go volunteer your time instead of your hair.
I agree with you as this hair donation to make a wig charity is just a feel good exercise for the people who fall for it.The last I heard donating hair hasn't cured cancer so whats the point.
Exactly Mark and been through having "C" I managed to keep all mine and why give it away :-)
I couldn't agree with both of you more, and besides, if a donation is needed, why not money, BUY A WIG AND GIVE IT, or actually be with a person and HELP them personally. But DON'T let the middle man end-up making all the money on this scam.
Furthermore these hair donation organizations are used by hair haters to manipulate people into getting their hair buzzed off by making them feel guilty.
Hi GR,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I hope you post more often. You are blessed with an outstanding head of hair, and I really hope that you keep growing it rather than donating it. Also, Scott has given you an excellent idea about saving your shed strands and donating them instead, if this is the route you really want to take.
The truly sad thing is that about 90% of the hair that some of these organizations receive is not used for wigs at all, and simply thrown in the garbage. If you want to help people with cancer, why not donate to a worthwhile charity instead!
Hope this helps,
David
Well the votes are in and the hair charities are not
what they are cracked up to be.
The only way I would even consider that is to do it for someone I
knew and by having the whig made for him or her (very expensive)
That way I could be assured of seeing it.
Kevin
Nice hair. The best way to help the fight against cancer, if you live in the US, is to participate in the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" or some similar event that actually raises money that goes directly into research and finding cures and prevention for the disease. When you help raise donations through them, a very high percentage of the money goes toward actually helping someone to live whereas donating hair for a wig is just a superficial stop-gap after someone actually has cancer. It seems better to help eradicate the causes of the symptoms rather than mollify their eventualities.
My $.02
GR, You have a gorgeous head of hair. Would be a shame to see it go. Very commendable that you want to donate. Why not time or money though. Have heard that charities like Locks of Love have too many donations to deal with so the simply dispose of much of what they receive similarly to Goodwill industries that burns much of its donated materials. btw I'll be 56 in a couple weeks and have very little gray except for a touch in the beard.
peace, jonalbear

Certainly not grey, looks fantastic in fact!!
Cheers Dave
Awsome hair !! do you wear a ponytail or braid it anytime, say for work??
I usually jsut tie it back, but I try to let it fly free as much as I can.
Hey GR...nice looking hair. It would be a shame to see you cut it because it suits you well. Whatever your decision, please come back and share your progress!
Take care,
Brett
You've got a wonderfull head of hair, it is a bad idea to donate as most of it is thrown away.
I'm starting to figure that out... I've donated it for years, but I'm beginning to think it's a scam. I wanted to see what other people thought. Problem is, I just couldn't go out and say "Are these hair donation things just a scam?" without looking like a monster, and I had to pick my audience. I'm gonna keep it now, I've done my duty, or at least I thought I did. I just can't believe that these outfits charge exorbitant prices to people that are at a disadvantage...
I'm gonna keep it.
Good for you! Every now and then someone tells me to cut my hair and donate it. My answer: "Why don't you grow yours and donate it?". Once I proposed to such a person: "Why don't you come and clean up my carpets? You can pick up all the hairs that you find and donate them".
