I got a new Linux server, which is going to replace an old one, and I had a picture taken while I was working on setting up the new system in the basement.

Hi Linux Longhair,
First off great lookin' hair you have as it looks in perfect, well kept condition and just gotta love the colour. Also the facial hair just compliments your mane as well.Great job!
Good luck with the server as I don't know much about Linux but certainly heard of it.I'm trying to phase out of my old PC and go strictly to macs:)Once my desktop PC goes south that's it!
Looking forward to my new mac if the old one even goes but its hanging in there rather well.Cheers my friend.

The son of a close friend of mine has had servers in his home. He is a real technogeek. I would have no idea how to set up or maintain a server.
The only programs I know how to do are in Excel. I have written programs to calculate orbit velocities, wire resistance at various temperatures, how much horsepower to move a car, and many others.
Out of curiousity, how much electricity does it use? I have heard that servers use a lot.
Scott
I do mostly sysadmin stuff (scripts and small programs to automate things) and I did my own spam blocking system.
About the same as a PC (250 - 300W). I have a Sun Ultra-60 that uses about twice as much.

Great looking hair!
Good luck with the server, what are you using it for?
I am hosting my websites and email on my own systems running Debian GNU/Linux. The new server - a Dell PowerEdge SC440 - will replace two old Pentium III PCs that are currently being used for hosting (together with a newer Dell machine). One of the old machines has a dead keyboard interface so I decided to retire it. The other webserver will be used as a load balancer - this job is done by an even older Pentium machine, one that I put together myself some 10 years ago.

Nice piece of work, it's always nice te re-use old pc's.
I use one of my machines as a mediacenter, the other for normal desktop work.
I've experimented a bit with linux but never had enough time to set up a server. There's a good change I will at some point in the future.
LinuxLonghair, Great looking mane and beard!
Best of luck with the new server setup.

I haven't a clue what a Linux server is (I'm EXTREMELY computer-stupid - lol); but, since you sound pretty happy about it, I'm happy for you!
BTW, to me, your hair looks an inch or 2 shorter in this recent pic, as compared to your avatar pic. Do you trim your ends very often? As for myself, nowadays I only use the "Search & Destroy" method of trimming off split ends, which I can do totally on my own, --- I haven't walked into a profession hair salon since '04. Just wondering...
As others have also commented in their replies, your beard is a perfect companion to your excellent mane! I have tried to grow my own beard out longer; but, every time it gets past a certain length beyond shaggy, both friends and strangers alike start calling me, "Santa Claus!" (my beard is VERY white) - LOL.
Take care,
Ken in San Francisco
Linux is an operating system - a free replacement for Windows that you can get for free on the internet. I have several PCs in my basement running webservers and mailservers. The new machine will replace two old ones.
My hair is at its terminal length, just above the area where my waist used to be many years ago. Some of it was likely caught under my shirt when I had the picture taken - it is hard for me to pull it from underneath the shirt as I cannot flex my arms enough to reach there without effort. I haven't been in a salon for more than 20 years and my last trim was years ago.
I am way past being bothered by what others say about me.

Great hair man, love the beard.
I get so damn mad at Windows sometimes! I use XP and hate "Vista" which my wife uses it on her laptop. Might get a Mac next time.
I ordered this PC on-line and put it together my self and it didn't blow up when I pushed to on button for the first time so I guess that's a computer success story.

I've recently started dabbling with Ubuntu and love it. We don't get to learn much about linux in school, But i tell you what. i will never use windows again at home.
