alot of ppl tell me i should get a dusting trim at least every 4 months or so and my ends are feeling a bit dry lately and ive seen just a few splits but nothing bad, what should i do? is it a good idea to do this so often or just let it grow
I say let it grow and leave it, man. You want long hair right? Don't cut it at all, it will only push you back further and further.
But that's just my personal thoughts on it.

Good advice there Hegg!
How's black Friday today?
Eh, same as every year I suppose. Just a bunch of animals spending money while they suffer in a crappy economy, you know, ha ha.
*Well, the way it was around here today could have been likened to a poor-mans circus...........but without the Monkey Bananas and Peanuts! Funny, but in the "Season to be Jolly" the faces of the shoppers are so stressful and unhappy looking. Meanwhile the cheery strains of Joy to the World bleap out of plastic electronic decor and gagets to hide under the Christmas tree.
Oh Holy Night,
the crowds are out
and screaming-
Tis is the night
of our dear
economic worth.
Low, money's tight,
and people
ain't a spending-
Despite the stores
having slashed
prices right.
Fall.....on your knees,
the crowds just don't
have the dough-
In this the season,
of cheer.....
Ha-ha,he-he,Ho-Ho!!!
In my wanderings through the "Zoo Isles" today, I didn't see any high priced items being carted-out. Mostly little things 4.99-9.99. So, is it "shop till you drop," or "shop having naught?"
Justin~
Well, at least I got a rebate at Best Buy on an APC 1300VA backup power supply for my new server (which is going to be commissioned today after 2 weeks of installation, tweaking and testing).

In a foul display of the excesses of shopping mania, a band of over-eager shoppers at a New York Wal-Mart literally broke down the doors and trampled a worker to death in their rush to buy discounted goods. How's that for ludicrous?
How silly, you would think some people would know betteror perhaps people over there turn into Leemings! I just don't get it lol!

but it actually did happen. That is scary.

Hi MarkS. If your comb snags right at the ends, you may have splits. If it does not snag, you should be alright for now.
Dusting splits requires trimming only 1/4" off the ends, an insignificant amount. You should only do it when absaolutely necessary.
Try a little jojoba oil on your ends for dryness, it may help.
Scott
just let it grow!
Just think how long it would have grown on a speedy express bus trip around the UK!
And ALOT of people just cannot mind their own business as has always been the case. (Little things for dwarf minds.) Pay them no attention and just ignor ignorant comments.
Just read some of the hair tips found in the links for the REAL ANSWERS.
Hi Mark,
I went to a hair salon recently and requested a dusting/trim to specifically deal with split ends. After asking the hairdresser to not trim more then a half inch max, and using my thumb and forefinger to let them know the measure visually, and saying that my objective was to grow the hair out they went and cut an inch and a half off the back and sides! Set back the growth for 3 months. I was pretty pissed off.
The lesson I learnt from this is to AVOID hair salons when growing out and if you must need a maintenance trim find another longhaired person who is sympathic to your growing out goals and ask them to trim the split ends. Be they girlfriend or another guy with long hair who can be trusted with your hair.
I thought to have a maintenance trim every 9 months based on the hair regime that Joao the Portugese guy does - to keep the hair in well-kept condition to achieve it's maximum length potential.
Your hairs looking great by the way.
Best,
Duncan
It all depends on what your goal is.
- Have long hair, regardless of how it looks.
- Have long and healthy looking hair.
If it's the second, then having true dusting trims every 4 months is a good idea. Most women's hair looks great during the growing process. This is due to dusting trims.
I had a standing appointment every 12 weeks with my stylist. I grew it to my waist in 3.5 years. Once it reached my waist, there was no need to cut off damaged hair, since there was none (due to my 1/8" trims along the way).
The key is to find a stylist you trust and ONLY go to her/him (and tip well!).
im def with you on that Mick tbh :) thanks for the kind words bro
Dusting trims can help improve the hair quality when needed.
But when you consider doing this it is very important to go to someone you TRUST! You can loose a lot of lenght if someone cuts to much away.
I don't know anyone who can cut my hair so I just let it grow and leave it alone. The quality of my hair is still good so I don't need a trim yet.
Some people cut their own splits end, it's a lot of work but you loose the minimum amount of hair.
Yes it is good to get dusting trims
if you wait till it's the length you want it to be, then you'll have to cut more off
this way, the split ends will be gone and your hair will look healthier
Best wishes,
Josh
I would say it's more important for your hair to be in good condition. If you look after it well, there shouldn't be too many splits or dry ends so you won't need a trim.
If your comb/brush is snagging at the ends, they may be dry. Use extra conditioner or jojoba oil on them. It really does make a difference.
To be honest, I don't really believe in the dusting/maintenance trim idea at all. Every now and then, I'll spend half an hour going through my hair looking for splits and take them out individually. Since I started using jojoba oil regularly a few weeks ago, I've noticed that my hair's in even better condition and I have to really search to find any split ends at all. It probably helps that I tend to wear my hair in a plait too, but I've been doing that for well over a year now.
If you do decide to get it cut, find a stylist who will do what you want and can be trusted not to hack off months of growth. Ideally, go with a stylist who's been recommended by someone you trust and has other long-haired clients.
