My hair is getting long enough to pull back into a pony tail. I've tried a couple different ways, and I really like the kind where you back just the sides behind your ears, leaving free the hair underneath the tail. Does anyone else do it this way? Do you have pictures so I can compare? Thanks.
BTW...great web site.

Actually, I have been considering buying some electric clippers so that I can clean up and square off the back of my head when I pull my shoulder~length hair into a tail. The gal who does that for me uses electric clippers at the place where I go, but it seems like such a waste of $17 to go in just for that.
Does anyone else out there use clippers to make a nice clean look under their tails??
Sure. I have cut several of them. All you need to do is square it off as if it were short hair. Make sure you have you hair clipped to the top of your head when you do it (or have it done) so you don't inadvertently cut off part of the ponytail! Just take off all the neck hair in a nice square--not too high. If you were close, I'd do it for you.
Some clarification: do you use electric clippers? I was looking at some in WalMart, will that do the trick???
If you are going to buy "amateur" clippers (and those will be fine for your purpose), then I would recommend that you buy Wahl. To completely (or a completely as possible) shave off the neck hairs, set the variable blade as short as it will go. Again, BE CAREFUL. These clippers cut fast. You don't want to lose your ponytail (or part of it) in the process!!!!
OK, I will be careful, but I'm gonna try it. I do have a triple mirror so that I can see, and I will take it slow!
The name of the company starts with letter S
I will appreciate so much if you help me.
Thank you in advance.

... I have tried trimmining the back of my neck with electric trimmers with near disasterous results. Then I tried just snipping the longer parts with sissors and finishing with a regular safety razor. This worked fine. I did have to stop and clean longer hairs out of the razor a couple of times.
I think I know the pony tail variation you are describing. Sometimes I tie back ONLY the front-top and front-sides into a ponytail that rests behind my head. This way the back hair is still loose and long. My hair seems to look longer because the loose hair appears longer than the ponytail.
At times when I can let my hair down, I often tie it that way because it keeps the front hair out of my eyes yet allows the back part to be loose and cover the back of my neck, part of my back and/or shoulders.
I agree.
