How long does my hair have to be in order to get long braids?
My hair has been growing for 7 months now.
If you want LONG braids you need LONG hair.
You'll need at least 2 to 3 years growth is my guess.

Long braids = Long hair
What do you consider "long braids"? Your definition of "long" is how long your hair must be.
I guess I don't understand the question.....
You can start doing braids like corn rows from when your hair is a few inches long, and they can make life easier during the awkward stage. You can possibly do a French braid from 14-16 months, depending on how quickly your hair grows, but it usually takes about two years' growth before you can do a single plait down the back.
Kevin C answered your question best; but, just so you understand how odd your question sounds, here is a parallel type of question I have for you in return...
Judging from the attached pic of my friend Christopher and me Swing dancing (I'm wearing the yellow T): How much weight do I need to lose in order to fit into his sleeveless orange shirt? I wear a size XL, --- and he wears a small.
I don't actually need a real answer to my question, since I already know I'd need to lose a TON of weight in order to even remotely fit into his orange shirt... Just encouraging you to THINK before posting a question here, --- especially if the question has an obvious answer!!
