...as I'm getting a bit paranoid about the ends of my hair.
I'm just wondering whether I can justify a dusting trim!
Cheers,

The biggest question is whether you know someone, professional or not, that you can trust to trim what you want. Other than that, a light trim is, at worst, a minor setback that will be restored by a month or so's growth so if it will help how you feel about your hair, why not?
I've had a few such trims here or there, and it hasn't hurt anything.

Hi John, a dusting trim is good if you have a lot of split ends. In addition to seeing splits, are you noticing that your comb or brush tends to catch right at the ends of your hair? If so, then dusting should help. You only need to trim about 5 millimeters off to get rid of most split ends. You won't be able to see a visible difference in length afterwards.
Here is the most important thing. Find someone you can trust at a long hair friendly salon. Top notch hairdressers are costly. My guess maybe £30 or £40. I am basing this on it costing about $60 to $70 here in the states.
If you can't find anyone that you can trust, you can individually dust splits yourself. Your hair is more than long enough to easily bring to the front to dust splits. You can do this at home while watching your favourite show on the tellie. A lot of people do it this way. Be sure to use a sharp pair of scissors to get clean cuts. If dull, ths scissors will tend to crush the hair strand, rather than cleanly cutting it. That would exacerbate the split end problem, rather than solving it.

Well if it's dusting that's the issue try vacuuming it.
