I just need to clarify with the intent of my earlier post.
It was in response to those guys that end up cutting their hair short and fellow posters assuring them that their 'hair will always grow back'.
And I just wanted to point out that, for many, there will come a time when it won't. (And yes, I know, MPB doesn't affect the sides and back, but still)
And if they can deal with that harsh reality, great. Whatever hairstyle they go with, is all fine with me.
I just don't want anyone to have false pretenses and get too attached to their hair.

I just know that, in my opinion, there are quite a few members on here who are, um, long hair extremists. LOL
I mean, a guy could post pics of hair that could be in poor condition. And yet, those members will be like "Awesome looking hair bro! Keep growing!"
It's like "AS LONG AS YOU KEEP GROWING IS ALL THAT MATTERS" seems to be the philosophy of the group, which is fine but not at the expense of looking like crap with split ends. (Unless ofcourse split ends actually look great. It's that darn no good fashion police telling you it's bad? :))
I mean, no one can deny that each time someone considers trimming split ends, there's a herd of protesters claiming "For the love of Jesus, don't do that! That will delay LONGER hair! It's just a conspiracy by salons to make money!"
And while it's great to love long hair, I don't think it's too healthy to, I don't know how to put it, go overboard. LOL
Me personally, yes, I am guilty of being attached to my hair. But I know with 100% certainty that I will not have the same confidence if I had a huge bald spot on the back of my head!
As far as reference being made to my body hair, I don't know what that had to do with 'long hair'. I didn't seek approval for my body hair on this board. LOL
That "if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it" motto is nice, but if my teeth looked yellow, I'd surely appreciate someone telling me that before I went out on a date! (unless again, that's just that darn no good society and fashion police telling you it looks bad.)
There's a difference between being the fashion police and being sensible.
If I think someone's hair was *are you ready* a bit too long *gasp*, I'd mention it. I mean, I'd say it looked real healthy (if it did) but I'd also suggest maybe trimming a few inches because it just didn't go with their frame or whatnot.
I just know that a lot of guys on this board are sensitive to criticism (see previous thread, lol) so I just keep my mouth shut most of the time. And perhaps I should have kept it shut and not posted this debate at all. LOL
But I'm kinda glad I did, because it assures me I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Why should anyone be surprised that there is inner conflict amongst longhairs?
I mean, within the gay community, there is disdain between masculine gay men, and effeminate gay men, no?
Regardless if we are all longhairs, we do have different opinions on what looks good, etc and it does not mean we should, in essence, become sheep ourselves and only have 1 view and 1 thought.
P.S. Gollum is cute but I prefer Gandalf. Nothing like a wise old longhaired man with a big staff...:)
Keep digging! :-)
Dear Vishnu in a paper bag eating kippers...if this site is good for anything it's effing AMAZING for creating drama.
It seems like everytime I check it out, there's a three mile long thread on a full on debate about...hair? Or maybe someone being uncomfortable with...someone...elses...appearence? Or my personal favorite, the political posts. Those are like, popcorn making moments! Just sit back and watch the mud fly!

"The Devil Goes Down to the Barber Shop"
Sounds good! But really Tristram.........how about puting even more "class" to this. Hmmmmmmm. Possibly:

Really? Wow.
Both of my brothers and my dad went bald early and they always wore their hair short so I never crack on anyone that has lost their hair.
"Skullets" are fine by me. Personally I would rather see someone with bad looking long hair than over the ears short or that hideous buzz cut. I have nothing against the shorthaired, most of my friends are, but they support me and would be disappointed if I ever cut it.
We get too much crap from the "hair intolerant" for me to be downing someone because their hair ain't perfect. I'm not adding to the criticism.
The length of my hair now is simply because I like it, the next 6 to 8 inches I grow are out of rebellion against the Jeff. co school board and other "hair nazis" who like to make rules against it. I used to put it in a tail to accommodate them but now I wear it down every chance I get.
I guess I'm one of those hair extremist you mentioned because I want to stamp out this prejudice or at less cull their influence over our society. I support longhair, good, bad and ugly, dreds and fros, gay or straight, mullets or skullets. If we don't support each other then who will?
I do appreciate your honesty but I one who's not laughing.
Never cut,
Paul
"Guilty as charged!" (LOL)
ROFL!!! So true, unfortunately, --- in fact, I have to admit that sometimes I withold saying to the occasional fellow MLHH member, "Have you even LOOKED at your own pic here, and the fact that it looks like you have TONS of split ends???" Instead, I try to be as subtle and diplomatic as possible w/ my honestly not liking that person's hair, --- and wishing they would at least consider trimming it a bit. A trim is NOT a cut (some guys here use the term, "dusting"). In my opinion, split ends can totally ruin how nice long hair can be; but, maybe I'll now be accused of being an anti-split ends Nazi (lol).... In any case, though, I actually *am* 100% supportive of guys w/ MPB who choose to grow and/or keep their long locks, --- and I honestly DO feel it can look totally cool (as long as they don't have split ends - lol)!!
ROFL!!!
Double- ROFL!!!!!!!
ATP, you have definitely clarified your points here, and I applaud you for your ability to speak plainly, and even a bit bluntly. I may disagree w/ you about skullets; but, I understand a bit better now where you are coming from!
Thanks,
Ken in SF
Absolutely! I'm always amazed (and greatly admire) your knowledge and awareness of how the gay community ticks inside their community brain... I know you are strait; but, for a strait guy, you should at least get an "Honorary Gay Man" award of some kind some day (lol)!! I mean, if I can get an "Honorary Lesbian" award for teaching Swing dancing at an all-women's dance, then you should get awarded honorary gay, too (lol)!!!!
LOL, ride on (no pun intended - lol), ATP!!

I think that an occasional trim is not a bad idea. I just had about 3 inches taken off my ends. I had to do this, because the ends had become so badly damaged that I could hardly get a wide toothed comb through my hair anymore. The shop where I went was very supportive of me having long hair and they told me that I should get tiny amount taken off the ends about every 3 months. This is how some women have such long and beautiful hair. The trick here is to go to a stylist that you can trust. My goal is to have my hair to the middle of my back and to have nice looking ends. My hair was to the middle of my back, but the splits were going further up the hair shaft. My hair is still near mid-back length, but it looks much better now and I have had many compliments on it since the trim. I never want to go back to short hair, but I have no choice concerning split ends.
BTW, my hair is baby fine and is probably more prone to splitting than someone with thick hair. Also, I have absolutely no problems with tangles since the trim, which means I have a reduced risk of pulling out any hair from hitting a snag. Ouch! I was doing quite a bit of that.

OK OK.I think its time to start collecting the bottles of cooking sherry as we've been indulging a bit too much! Hick!LOL
Adult beverages make my follicles happy and they get all tingly inside. They don't care too much for schnops, or wine, but champagne, or Heineken will suffice.

Hi jeffery
I"m always up for a good micro brew and if I'm in the mood for the hard stuff a Bombay Sapphire and Tonic just hits the spot:)

OK, I am a long hair extremist. That's just who I am.
As for split ends, I am prone to them because I have fine hair. If I trimmed them off every 3 months at a salon I wouldn't have any growth.
I don't happen to think that hair can be too fine, or too thick, or too curly, or too straight, to grow long, or that very long hair can ever look wrong for the shape of someone's face, or that if someone has unsightly gaps in their hair that it would be enhanced by cutting it shorter, and I don't think that hair is too long unless you trip over it when you walk. So there.
I understand that you probably don't agree with all the above, and you probably can't figure out why I would have these views, but all you need to know is that they are genuinely held. I'm sure yours are too.
