I was wondering if there was anyone here who took/takes biotin and if so did they notice any changes?
I was just wondering because I'm considering taking it myself.
I take biotin and I have no doubts that it speeds up the growth rate of hair as well as nails. Originally it was called vitamin H, the "H" representing hair. Egg white injury syndrome depletes the body of biotin, thus causing serious problems with the hair.

Yes I plead guilty to taking Biotin.
And yes I believe that it has helped the hair grow quicker. My hair grew 8cm in about 8 months before taking them, afterward grew 6cm in 4 months! So I believe that it has boosted the growing by 50%.
We don't use inches as measure in Australia.

I am taking a high potency biotin capsule. It is 5 milligrams which is 1667% of RDA, so I take one every 3 days. It is too early to tell, but I think it may be helping.

Hmmmmmmmmm.I may want to look into this myself.I assume its just a supplement sold over the counter?Hope there aren't any nasty side effects.

I've been taking it for 9 months. It's the Nature's Valley 1000Mcg. I've definately noticed improved quality of my hair and it's possibly growing at a faster rate, though my hair grows fast to begin with. For the price @ around $5/bottle of 100, I'd reccommend it.

This question comes up almost monthly around here. There is no scientific evidence that taking biotin speeds hair growth or improves hair quality in healthy people who are well-nourished. I'm a doctor (M.D.) and I've looked at all the studies (>500 of them!) that have been published about this over the past 20 years. There are many sellers of biotin on the internet. They use personal testimonials rather than published research to sell their products. If you want to spend your hard-earned money so you can feel good about "doing something" for your hair, go ahead and spend your money on biotin. For most people, though, it's nothing more than an expensive placebo.
Well, looks like another "lurking" MD.
Of course, a well balanced diet is all that should be required, however, well balanced diets seem to be few and far between. Also, many of us do things that may deplete out bodies of certain nutrients, such as smoking, etc. All things considered a good supplement such as Centrum is probably not a bad idea.
And no, I'm not a doctor. But, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night:)

I do take Biotin along with a daily multi-vitamin as I really do not eat right. I can't say yes or no as if it really helps or not, but it does not seem to be hurting either.
You can get it at the WalMart Supercenters for $7.97 (I think that's what I pay) for a bottle of 120 at 5000 mcg

After reading this post I decided to give it a try to see if it really helps me,not that my hair is in bad condition.I figured even if it helps a little then maybe its worth the cost.I just picked up a 100 ct bottle at Walgreens for $11 that is 1000mcg.Looks like Karsten got the better price but I just saw it today and didn't feel like shopping around.I don't exactly have the best diet in the world so it can't hurt I suppose. We'll see.

Mark,
Give it a try, and if you think it's working then restock with the WalMart bargin. (The brand name is Rexall.)
The mind can do great things for the body, and if taking Biotin puts one in the right state of mind that's a good thing.

Thanks Karsten, I'm hoping for some results and if all goes well I'll definately look for a better bargain.Walgreens is kind of a rip off but I happened to be there so just got the one bottle.I have noticed too that my finger nail growth has been slower than usual so it will be interesting if that picks up.Keep growing that awesome mane my friend:)

Ok, I'm getting in on this one too!
I just went out today and got the 5000 mg version, and I will report back what happens.
Thanks for this thread, and for those of you doing this "scientific" study!!!

I started taking Biotin tablets 4 months ago - I believe that it has helped along my hair growth by 50% but it's hard to say whether the Biotin on it's own is effective or not.
Everyone's biological makeup is different so the best way to find out is to give the Biotin a try.
I'm keeping a record as I go along but will see how much growth has occured at the 6, 9, and 12 month marks to see if it has really helped or not.
Also other factors like improved diet, better lifestyle practices must be taken into account too. I gave up drinking and junk food 4 months ago too.
