Hey, All.
Tomorrow is the big day for me. I am graduating from the University of Texas at San Antonio with 2 BAs--one in English and one in Technical Communications.
I had planned to get my hair cut to go job hunting and to make my cousin happy when she comes to my ceremony, but I really could not afford it. I guess she will have to live with my long hair, at least for a while.
Most of you don't know it, but I am disabled--I am severely hearing impaired and suffer from clinical depression and anxieties. It's been a real struggle through college.
Anyway, here is a picture of me with my "morning hair." I hope you all have a great holiday and fantastic new year. Wish me luck in my job hunting, and, of course, keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Congrats on your graduation, that's really great. :)
Best of luck in your job hunt, and best wishes to you and yours for the holidays.
Thanks, JSFrodo! Keep that hair growin' and flowin'. Happy holidays.
TLH
great update TLH! congrads on your school and good luck with the job hunting my friend have a great christmas! :)
Thanks, Mark. Thou art truly a most royal knight. Happy holidays.
TLH
A blessing in disguise for you keeping your long hair. And as for your cousin, so sorry to be unhappy this time a year and based all because of long hair. Has she anything else to think about?
Best of luck to you in the graduation as well as having to live with such a disability. And of course, much continued success with nice long hair and happy holidays ahead! :-)
Hi Terry,
Well done on getting 2 degrees and I hope you enjoy the day I know it has been a struggle for you and all the more you deserve them.
Why make you cousin happy and at the end of the day it's you hair and you've taken the time to grow it out. I know some people lik that and to me it's shallow and I give them less than the time of day.
Enjoy tomorrow and happy holidays.
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John. Thanks for your congrats. I still have dreams of visiting the U.K. and meeting you and my other friends on your side of the Atlantic.
TLH
Your always welcome as and when.
Thanks for the kind wishes, Justin. My cousin means well. She also lost both her husband (to cancer) and her eldest son (to suicide). She's really a great person.
TLH
It's nice you got your grade as it was more diffucult for you.
I'm glad you're keeping the hair :)
Good luck looking for a job!
Thanks, Vincent. Keep that hair of yours growin', too.
TLH
Awesome to hear TLH! That's gotta be a great feeling to finaly get ur bachelor's, let alone 2 at the same time! I'm sure that took a lot of hard work. I'll have a similar feeling in May when I finaly get my BA in Communications. R you going to go for your masters afterwards? I think I may but not sure in what field.
Anyway excellent hair as well, the curly texture looks great and I bet if you straightened it, it would be waist length lol.
Take care, Congratulations and thank for sharing.
-Phil
Thanks, Phil. Fortunately, some of the classes could be used for both BAs. I may go for my Masters, but I'll probably do it online--too much driving! Good luck on your degree, also. Consider researching a way you can combine your degree with music. Awesome Web site!
It barely reaches my waist when it is wet, but it's at terminal length.
TLH
Hey TL...congrats on your graduation and for maintaining your great hair. Much success in your job hunting...and try not to cut that hair of yours. Make yourself happy first in this case.
Cheers,
Max
You can get a job w/ long hair. We all did.
Congratulations, Alun,
BSc Electronic & Elec Eng, Loughborough Univ., England.
Thanks, Alun. I still have fond memories of dinner with all my long haired friends in the D.C. area.
TLH
Thanks for the congrats, Max. It's been a long, hard journey.
Well first of all TLH, many congratulations on your graduation, and may I wish you all the best in your job hunting, Try not to cut your hair though, as it looks terrific, and I am sure your skills will gain you the dream job no matter what length or style your hair!
Chher Dave
Thanks for the congrats, Dave. I've always admired your freedom expressed through your hair. Keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Congrats on the degrees and good luck finding a job in the current market.
I don't think getting it cut for graduation is going to make your cousin happy. If she's unhappy about that odds are she's unhappy about a lot of things.
Do what you feel is best and we will support you as always.
Kevin
Thanks, Kevin. You guys (and gals) have been such a great inspiration. Keep it growin' and flowin'. Happy holidays.
TLH
Congratulations on getting your degrees in spite of all that you've had to deal with.In fact, by doing that, you need to take it a step further and refuse to cut your hair for any job or anybody. That is unless that is what you want.It would be a shame to come as far as you did and cave to some dweeb employer and cut your hair.Your accomplishments should count first my friend.
Mark
Thanks for the congrats, Mark. I really appreciate the friendship of you and the rest of mlhh. Keep that hair growin' and flowin'. Happy holidays.
TLH
Congrats TLH,
I hope we have all helped by being here for you when you get the blues.
My wife lost hearing in one ear from a tumor a few years ago. I always walk or sit on her right side so we can talk. She's also just finishing up collage to be an elementary school teacher.
In construction I've rarely had a problem getting a job because of my hairstyle but I do like to make a joke about it sometime during the interview just to see how they respond. It brings it out in the open and shows them I don't mind if someone comments on it. If they do mention cutting it I always respond with, "Well, my hair doesn't do any work." If this doesn't bring out a chuckle then I'd stick to my guns and point out my strong suits
and agree to put it in a tail during work. If that's not good enough then do you really want to work for such a narrow minded outfit? It's a good indication that they will be very controlling in other areas also.
Best of luck,
Paul
Thanks for the congrats and all of the advice, Paul. Your wife is truly an inspiration. I wish you the best during this holiday season. Keep that beautiful red hair growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Congratulations Terry, Well Done!!
Bruce
Thanks, Bruce. Happy holidays, and keep your great hair growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Your hair is lovely and I hope you will never cut it. Keep it long.
Scott
Thanks, Scott. It's funny, after all these years, I didn't know your name was Scott. Absalom fits you better. Keep yours growin' and flowin', too.
TLH
Hi TLH,
Congratulations on achieving your dual major! Your graduation day is about you, not your cousin. Keep your hair forever. You've got great hair that it'd be a shame to cut. I think you'll do fine finding a job with your hair just as it is. San Antonio's a big place. Just as Samson lost his strength on having his hair cut, do you really want to risk losing all your hard-attained knowledge were you to cut your hair? ;-) And, the other good thing is that they're coming out with newer and better technologies in the hearing aid field all the time to help with all types of hearinglosses. I think you'll be OK on all fronts. Now, when you find a job, you'll have to start your Master's. Just take one or two courses part-time per semester, and you'll be through before you know it! I've just about finished my English MA, only now lacking the thesis and one course.
MB
Thanks, Matt. Congratulations on your Masters degree, too. Keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Two degrees !! Congratulations.....what an achievement !
The best of luck on the job interviews. Just by its nature, the job search can be a very demeaning experience...try not to take it personally and do not let it get you down. There is a lot of negative hype in the media these days, but trust me there is work out there and companies needed good folks. I would not cut the hair unless that is what YOU want to do.....The person on the other side of the desk should be evaluating you abilities, not your disabilities and remember, the interview is a two way street; if you get bad vibes, thank them for the time and leave.
Let us know how it is going.
Enjoy the Day....
It is one of the most special days of your life !!
Again, Congratulations and Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Thanks, Walter. Your words of encouragement really help. I hope you have a great holiday and a prosperous 2009. Keep it growin' and flowin'. I'll try to do the same.
Terry
Two degrees... wow!
"... It's been a real struggle through college." But... you made it. Congratulations! :-)
--Rick
Thanks, Rick. Happy holidays, and keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Hi TLH. How did you graduation go? Nevertheless, do not cut your hair, no matter what. I did not know your disabilities till I saw this post. But at least you made it through college. By the way, your hair have nice waves.
Merry Christmas.
Matthew aka Regardless
Hey, Matthew. I made it! I should get some pics from my cousins and the photographer in the future. I'll post one or two. BTW, I received A's for both my classes. It brought my GPA back up to 3.0. Merry Christmas. Keep it g & f (I'm getting tired of typing it all out so often).
Terry
Hi TLH,
Congratulations on this wonderful achievement in your studies! Also, that is a great picture of your mane. Also, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas!
Take care,
David
Thanks, David. I hope you have a great holiday season and a fabulous 2009. Keep it g & f.
TLH
Congratulations Terry!
Best of luck with the job search and, by all means, do keep it growin' and flowin'!
Big hugs atcha, Oren!
Thanks for the congrats and the hug. At least I didn't trip and fall on my face. I only saw one other person that had what I can really consider long hair at the ceremony (out of about 400 graduates). He had a nice looking beard, also.
Your hair and beard are really looking great. You should be proud of your achievement, too.
We'll just have to see if I will keep it growin' and flowin'. Happy holidays.
