I am 27 now and I used to have long hair about shoulder length when I was 20. Unfortunately I abused my hair pretty bad, hardly ever washing it and dying and bleaching every other day. Finall after it became so fried; instead of trimming it a bit and taking care of it I cut it all off. I have been trying to grow it out again for the pst 8 years but never can pass the year mark. I am almost to a year now from a completely shaved head, but the proble was I used to shave the sides and have the top long (old school florida death metal look). I finally listened to my girlfrined and started growing out the sides 2 and a half months ago now. All in all I have been growing my hair for 8 months now and the top is past my ears and the sides are almost 2 inches in length.
Here is my issue. I do NOT know what to do beause due to me not taking care of my hair it has started to get thin in the front section a bit, but noticebale becaue the rest is really thick. This discourages me every time I look in the mirror. Some days it is okay and others I want to shave it but I WON'T ever again. My question I guess is, what do I do about my obsession with this thinning area. I have tried all of these products that claim to grow hair...namely Nioxin and I feel it has doen more damage than good. I went off of it and started using regualr shampoo and stuff but then it seems like it starts thinning but i think it is because I am way to obsessed over it growing out (making it) before I go too bald to have long hair.
Any suggestions? Has anyone been so crazed about having long hair again? Especially working in the black and death metal scene, it is cool to be bald and all, but long hair on stage is awesome and I have always loved the style because it fits me better than short hair. So is it worth it to buy al of these high priced shampoo and conditioners, or does anyone have any products they like more so than others...this shit is driving me crazy. I will not cut my hair again, but I would like to maximize the time I have ti ebfore it looks ridiculous.. Thanks
Hey, Keith. The only treatment that has been proven to regrow hair is Propecia. Some members have been using biotin and/or vitamins with good results.
Expensive shampoos and conditioners don't do much to thicken hair, but they will thin your wallet. Find a shampoo that works for you. Everyone's hair is different.
When I was in my mid to late 20's, my hairline receded slightly, and I became really worried. Since that time, it has moved backward and forward slightly. Perhaps stress has something to do with it.
I would just let it grow and quit worrying about it. We always tend to notice our own hair more than others. I agree that nothing beats long hair on the stage. Just keep it growin' and flowin'.

Hey, Keith.
The thinning of your hair might be due to male pattern baldness.
You can go to a dermatologist who might be able to diagnose your hair and scalp and tell you if it is genetic.
The dermatologist most likely will offer to prescribe you some propecia, which can slow down or even halt the balding.
I would suggest that you do some research on the subject.
Happy holidays!
