hi! i've been growing out my hair for the past 3 months or so. it's probably the same length as tom cruise's hair in mi2 already. this is perhaps the longest i've had it since elementary school. i have developed an acne problem though. i've stopped using hot oil treatment and conditioner. i also shampoo everyday. any other tips to reduce the breakout on my scalp? also how long would it take me to grow it out shoulder length? i'm actually thinking of shaving it all off due to the acne but perhaps i could find a way through it.
thanks and merry christmas to all!
keeping your scalp clean by shampooing every day is probably the way to go. the acne won't go away immediately but if you keep pores clean it should subside eventually. Acne is caused by clogged pores and may have resulted from the oil you used. shaving and making sure you have a clean scalp before starting again may be a good idea, and avoid the oil and the whole "all natural no wash rinse only" thing. you may have an oily scalp and have to shampoo more often than others. As we age, our skin dries out. If you are say, 20 years old, what works for some guy 50 or 60 years old may not work for you because your scalp is pumping out so much more oil (sebum). merry xmas and HNY
Don't shave your head... believe it or not, that doesn't actually help you very much with acne, and also reveals it to the entire world. My brother had an acne problem on his scalp, and he got rid of it by thoroughly cleaning his head everyday. It looks like you are already doing this, so keep shampooing (make sure it gets to the roots) and you can probably wait it out.
You may have a form of folliculitis. This may be caused by bacteria, or fungus and shaving can make it much worse. I suggest that you first give the shampoo NIZORAL a try. Due to your age there is a chance that bacteria, or fungus is taking advantage of your high sebum production. If you try Nizoral, please follow the directions carefully.
