Yay, I'm actually updating. I know my updates are few and far between, but that's just due to the curl. :) Here's my one year update since I joined MLHH.
This is my hair, one year ago nearly to the day, and is my avatar here, obviously.
This was JUST after I had dyed it black after a long affair with bleach, in whichI've had almost every unnatural and natural color (or variation therein)known to human kind, including white (highlights were awesome).
After that, I hennaed for the first time and took up CO, around...January/February of 2008.
Which did a lot. Soon after this, I changed my hair-type to 3b/3c/F/M/ii, because it was far more accurate, I think. I'm still not fully sure what texture my hair is, but I couldn't care less as long as it feels fine, and as to the thickness, my last haircut included layers. A LOT of layers.
Anyway...
I hennaed again, and again, and again...
And my hair got longer (though not much noticeably, due to the curl)...
(Friend's birthday party in March. I wasn't quite...apt to the idea of having my photo taken.)
And now, since I'm out of photos (or just too lazy to look them up) my one year-progess photos.

My hair is STILL short, sadly, and is hovering right between chin and shoulder, sometimes reaching the latter. When it's pulled straight, it is ALLLLLMOST APL, as well.
I can't do much with it other than a ponytail or small segmented tail, but I'm pleased otherwise. The latter of those produces some pretty cool results too (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b170/PaulCarroll/Me/DSCF1372.jpg
minues the front, obviously). I'm FINALLY getting comments on how long it's getting, though all positive, at leas the ones said aloud to me. Tomorrow I'm letting my sister even up the back a little and cut off some dye damage. As much as my sister and I...dislike each other at times, she's good with hair, having waist length brown hair, albeit straight. She promised to use a ruler. XD;
All said and done, I'm pretty happy with my hair at the moment, and it's the only thing I'm pretty happy with physically. XD I can't wait until it's at least BSL, but it'll be probably 2 or more years before I reach there curly. Ah well. I can wait.
Thanks for reading my update guys. : )
Sweet henna job!
you have some of the best curly hair ive ever seen
XD Thank you.
Those are quite the curls! Excellent! Even though you must have to be the most patient longhair, your long curls will be worth the wait.
Keep it growin'
Bruce
XD I certainly hope so. Thanks.
Glad everything's going ok on the hair front. It looks really good in spite of the adventures it's been through. If your pleased that's what's most important.
Kevin
Yep! ^_^ Thanks.
Hey, Glasseyes. Your hair looks fantastic, even if it seems to take forever to grow. There are a lot of people who spend a lot of money to get perms like your hair is naturally. By all means, keep it growin' and flowin'. Don't be such a stranger to mlhh.
TLH
I lurk. xD I usually only respond if I have some advice to give or someone has a question I can answer. And thank you. ^_^
Hi GlassEyes,
Congratualtions on one year at the hyperboard, and thank you for sharing your update with us! Your thick and shiny curls are awesome, and be sure to keep them growing.
I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David! : )
Great update, GlassEyes!
Of COURSE the curls hid the length (as you and I both know), but they add a very nice volume and fullness to the hair, too. I think your hair is great. I am curious bout your use of henna. Am I correct in my recollection of you mentioning in a previous post that there are colourless henna varieties and that they are all good treatments for the hair? I am curious to know if you enjoyed using (and found it easy to use) henna. While I am uninterested in colouring my hair, I would not mind finding healthy ways to keep my hair free of dryness and breakage (aside from my usual 'heavy on the conditioner' routine).
Thanks again for the update.

XD Actually, you'd be wrong on that account. There is not such thing as colorless henna, only glosses and treatments containing smaler amounts of hena so as to not impart much color. I believe you're thinking of color change, because I believe I've said if your hair is dark, henna won't change much ebyond making it tinted red in the sun.
HOWEVER, there IS something called cassia obovata which is sometimes calle 'neutral henna'. It DOES impart color, but it fades, and won't show up unless your hair is borderline white blonde. It's a small yellow tint.
The benefits of cassia don't last as long as henna, but they are a less-permanent solution for those that don't want to risk it. Also, henna can be drying at first, but it imparts a permeable barrier of protection that increases shine as well as conditioning the hair. Cassia is slightly weaker, but it imparts osme of the same shine and feel.
hennaforhair.com has cassia.
Thanks for the clarification, GlassEyes. I think I'll just stick with my natural colours (which include the 'red tint in the sun' as well as more than a few whites).
Cheers!
Shawn
