Hey all!!
Well, I broke the ice today anyway! My mom and I were out at dinner and it seemed like a good time to bring it up (easier to get home 10 miles away then 300, LoL!) and she doesn't seem to crazy about the idea still but all she really said on the subject is maybe you should wait until you get your new job. I told her I don't really see why it matters because where i want work is guy long hair friendly, so if it's even a little long i don't see why it matters, if it looks longish during a interview or while I'm working, if they don't want it, they will tell me to cut it (Not that they well) so what difference does it make!
Just a side note, when i was in their a few nights ago, there was one of the cashiers and he had dreadlocks going to to his midback! I don't see where i have anything to worry about!! :)
I'm sure it'll be brought up again i should get a haircut before going in and applying, but even right now, my hair isn't all that long. My last hair cut was early/mid November and it's sort of longer side of short right now.
Anyway! I'll be sure to keep everyone updated!! Thanks for all the help!!
Happy New Year!
Shane
Hi Shane,
Hey, that's very encouraging news about how your mom took the news.See now that wasn't so hard was it.LOL.I think you are correct though in holding your ground during your job search.I mean if your hair currently isn't all that long why bother making it into a really short cut now.It sounds like the place you are looking to apply to won't have an issue with your hair so don't even think about it.I wouldn't even bring it up in the interview as if its not mentioned then having longhair isn't an issue then. Thanks for the update Shane as I wish you the best in your job and longhair journey my friend:)Cheers and Happy New Year!!
Mark
Thanks for the help!! I'm going to hold my ground and hope for the best!!
Take it easy!
Shane
Hey Shane, way to go! Although your mom doesn't really have any say in the matter, it is good that you are communicating and trying to keep the peace. Keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Nice feeling isn't it?
Happy New Year to you too!
Hi Shane,
That is great news, score one point for the longhairs!
As for what your mom said about your job, I think she's using a strategy to keep your hair short for as long as possible so maybe you'll grow out of your "phase" and forget about growing it.
If she's anything like mine, you can expect plenty more tactics to come. Just remember, she is your mom but also keep in mind you're a man now and you get to make your own choices from now on.
To get her more on your side of things is try to dispel her view of longhaired men. There are lots of upstanding people who wear it long, make sure to point this out when you get a chance.
Good luck,
Paul
Hey Paul,
That could be what she wanted to try and do, but she didn't try real hard at the same time. Maybe she will be accepting of it? The true test will be what's going to happen when we normally get haircuts, but I'm going to hold my ground :)
Happy New Year,
Shane
I hope you do, if you start to falter just come back here.
Paul
I think she knows what a lot of people think about men with long hair (the silly stereotypes) and just doesn't want you to hurt your chances of employment.
Happy hairgrowing!
