I personally have a few...
First (and most obvious), I won't be cutting my hair. I think that's likely a given for most of us on the hyperboard.
However, secondly, I have been pondering and discussing a business plan with Austin over the past few days (on the off chance that graduate school doesn't work out or whatever... or even if it does). I won't make any specific disclosures here, so as to not jinx it or spur any competition (yes, I can be a bit paranoid about things like that). Though, I will say that it is a service that would be in very high demand, given the current economic state of the industrialized world, and it would also help a lot of people. My goal is to develop a solid business plan for this idea and hopefully begin the road to getting it established.
Lastly, the most cliche... A bit of weight loss would be terrific. I had bottomed out at 183 lbs. last year (from a high of around 225 lbs.), and while I don't want to lose THAT much weight, 20 or 25 lbs. would be grand. =)
Alright, I've shared mine. What are yours?
Happy 2009, y'all!
-James
I want to earn some more weight, about 10kg or 5 pounds.
I want to grow my hair to my hip.
I want to stay successful in my job.
I gave up on having New Year's Resolutions several years ago as I could never keep any! To those that do...and keep them...I wish you the Happiest of New Years.
Here are some of mine (most of them are of internet use):
-- No more hair cuts or trims (as told by you guys and my common scene, remember the February wedding)
-- Not be gullible anymore (back in April, I have purchased a fake anti-spyware program called Anti-spyware Master (which is a massive waste of money, and destroyed my dad's computer).
-- Not sign up for any more online profiles or services unless necessary, just sticking with MySpace and FaceBook (I have deleted a lot of them in the last couple of weeks)
-- Not talk to any women that are horny (and block them if they are)
-- Find a job better than my current game testing job (I had that job for more than a year now, and it is time to move on)
-- Simply keep growing out my hair (once my hair get long enough, I will not be as cranky or jealous of others with long hair).
These are some of the more obvious resolutions I am planning to make.

Hey James,
Excellent freaking topic! Here's mine,
1 Spend more time with my kids.
2 See how much longer my hair will get.
3 Get as many people to join My space profile "It's Only Hair" as possible.
4 Take on the Hair Nazis on the Jefferson Co. school board!
5 Give same Hair Nazis as much grief as I can by swamping them with letters from students, parents and other concerned people.
6 Make more money.
7 Pay off some bills.
Hey, James. Good luck on your business plan. Hope you have a great 2009!
Since I NEVER have been able to keep a resolution, I hereby resolve to go skinny-dipping in the Arctic Ocean this winter.
I'll make some goals in the next few days. Keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
1. Quit slacking off at school so much (Not that my grades are crap, but I can do a whole lot better than a 2.8 GPA)
2. Start going to the gym more often and build muscle
3. Quit flirting and screwing around with so many girls and actually have a meaningful relationship with one.
4. Get a job. A paying job, not just volunteer work.
And to make this not totally unrelated to hair...
5. No more trims and grow out past shoulders.
------------------------
Hi James, it is good you won't be cutting your hair. That is a resolution that I will keep too.
It is a good idea to keep ypur business plan under wraps for now, especially if it is something unique and original. May it be a success.
As for your weight, 203 lbs is midline ideal weight at a height of 6'9".
Scott
No haircut in 2009 and becoming a nice longhair!
Gotta' keep working on those 2004 Christmas Cards.....sigh
Weight loss is something I could use
and keep my hair growing, which won't be hard
1. No haircuts. (I foolishly shaved my head at the beginning of August, following the loss of a friend to brain cancer. This is actually more of a 2-year resolution: I will not even trim my hair before earning my licensure as a registered nurse in June, 2010.)
2. Weigh 200 pounds or less. (Currently about 238... at 200 I'll be pretty lean at about 8% bodyfat.)
3. Continue working hard at college, staying on the Dean's list, and making time to be a good husband to my wife and father to my four children.
Two hours of *focused* practice on college music audition pieces a day.
Not do anything stupid to my hair.
Mine:
1. Write more and look for more opportunities to be published (online or in print). This is more of an avocation than a job, but with the wrenching changes going on in the print media, I see more rather than fewer opportunities for a dedicated amateur.
2. Contra the usual NYR, I want to get above 200 lb. (I lift and am SO close. I'm also 41 and progress is slow. )
Chris
I'd like to actually work to keep a few of these:
1. Grow my hair to about mid back, past my shoulder blades.
2. Keep to my current workout schedule.
3. Have a meaningful and lasting relationship.
Hey James, best wishes to you in 2009 and success in whatever business venture you get into.
As for me...of course, no scissoring and I hope to gain a little more mass in 2009.
Also, spend more time with family.
Cheers and happy new year all.
Max
Max,
This seems like a good time to thank you for being so inspirational, concerning both long hair and rock-solid physique. I have great respect for the improvements you've steadily made in both departments over the past couple of years, and have no doubts regarding your ability to keep on keepin' on. All my best to you and yours as we usher in 2009!
Love, peace, and bear grease,
Val
Greetings Val, many thanks for your kind words indeed. Likewise I wish for you and your family all good things in abundance in 2009. I'm happy that I provided some inspiration along the way...that really helps. Just today I saw someone I had not seen in over 2 years and THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS, "Wow, look at that hair...I absolutely HATE it! Get the scissors!" Needless to say I was not pleased. I just replied that it was no use telling me I should cut it cause it ain't gonna happen. I've gotten a really tough skin about that nowadays.
Cheers, peace, love, and bear grease...(love that)
Max
Sorry to hear about the negative response from your acquaintance. Just remember that for every unfavorable reaction that DOESN'T matter, you make many positive, inspirational impressions that DO. Sounds like you responded to the insult with strength and resolve though, so kudos! Thanks for the well-wishes, and take care!

You just gotta shake your head and wonder sometimes about the nerve of some people. HE hates your hair, so YOU need to cut it off. From somebody so deeply involved in your life that you haven't seen him in two years [insert sounds of dripping sarcasm here]
Have a good one, Max
Hey Max,
Jeeze, what the hell? I think I would have cussed him like a dog.
Maybe he was trying to make a joke and it just backfired.
My friends sometimes goof on mine but if they told me they "Hate" it, then we probably have a problem. I really, really hate buzz-cuts but I never say it to a buzz-head. It would be rude.
Cheers,
Paul
New Year Resolutions?
To lose weight from a current 107kg down to a fighting fit 95kg continuing the newly acquired healthy eating habits of the last 4 months.
Spend more time with my family, and be around progressive inspirational people and do more active positive creative pursuits.
Continue the 4 month abstinence from alcohol.
Keep my hair growing past the shoulders without any further trims and have at least one foot of long hair by the end of 2009.
Duncan
Hmmmmnnnn.... Looking at 12 mega pixels (4272 x 2848) for this year's resolution. Last year's resolution was 8 mega pixels.
Best of luck James with your new ventures, no cuttin', and Happy New Year!
--------------------
That is the most original resolution I have ever heard of. Maybe I should go to 12 megapixels too. I am currently at 7.1 megapixels. It would be nice to get that from a pocket size camera.
Scott
Happy 2009 to all too!
I don't make hard and fast resolutions so much as keep in mind things I need to do and accomplish that are realistically attainable, but among these suggestions, here are a few.
1) Maybe drink less beer. (HAHAHAHAHA!)
2) Get back down to 190 lbs. from 200+. (hahaha!)
3) Finish Master's thesis and graduate by May.
4) Send out resumes and find a full-time teaching position by the summer.
5) Get house painted and leaks in roof fixed.
6) Try to take walks daily;lift weights for exercise 2x weekly.
Besides that, everything's OK. Or at least I keep telling myself that (refer back to #1).
Good luck on your business too! I hope that takes off for you.

Mine is to be happy, ignore anyone negative, be positive, relax more and be fitter and faster than I have ever been before.
Happy new year everyone.
