Alright, so I've been interested in the bobby pins to help me cope with the awkward/crazy stage of hair before it gets long enough to hold itself down. I posted a couple of pictures to show what I've done on my first attempt. (There is only one... but it helps a great deal and doesn't look to shabby)!! Anyways, I've been growing it out since August of 08' (last summer). It grows fast... or so my mother says. But here are a 6 months update. :D
P.S.--I just turned 21!!! SO yes, there has been a good milestone I've reached I guess. Keep growing the hair guys. Your pictures are perfect inspirations. :D

I've messed around with them but to be perfectly honest I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to do with them.
And then there's the same problem I have with a topknot. My hair's curly enough that it curls UP if I pile it on top of my head. =[
I've used them, because the hair near my hairline isn't quite long enough to reach the ponytail tie. One on each side usually does the trick. I don't think they are that noticeable, but certainly if one were looking for them they are there to see.
Me, I don't really know if they are perceived as feminine. I don't know why they would be other than the obvious, that more women use them, but that also applies to anything used to restrain hair. For what it's worth they are probably the least feminine option for the purpose that they serve, a lot more so than a barette.

Way to go, I admire you courage. I wear a hair barrett. I am 57 &3/4. I have been growing my hair since June '07.
Hi, I also used bobby pens.
When my hair was significantly shorter, which was last summer, my hair got into the way of my eyes, so I put bobby pens up in the front to keep my hair out of the way of my eyes. Today, when I ponytail my hair, I put bobby pens right above my ear to hold back any hair that is still a little too short to put into a ponytail.
However, my dad thought that bobby pens are only for women and told me to take it out. Because of my dad's attitude on my hair, computer and being old school, I rarely go see him ttoday.

Oh yeah, I use bobby pins ALL the time! They're extremely useful, especially when hair in the front is too short to pull up into a ponytail.
it's not girly at all, they blend in very well. Just don't clip the hair with them TOO tightly, they can get painful then. And try to take them out slowly; it's easy to rip hair out like that.
