I was thinking since I'm looking for a new job here in the So Cal area, maybe some of you can jump in with some long hair friendly companies! I'm going to try for trader joes but having some back up ones would be nice!!

Shane, I believe Borders Books and Music is. I see 2 or three longhaired employees every time I go in my local store. Have thought about applying there my self.

I think that you'd have a hard time finding companies in California that would discriminate against you based on hair length. Particularly because we love to sue people here and you could make a case for gender-based discrimination if the company employed any women with long hair.
I live in So Cal too, and I just retired from the USPS here. As an employee, the USPS times everything you do, they compare your productivity to what everyone else did before, they don't hire enough people to do the work, everyone is forced to work extra hours, everyone has back problems and respiratory problems and is chronically fatigued. You have to deal with the most boring people on earth, in the office and as customers whose idea of being the "next Jay Leno" is to say "Don't bring me any bills, just checks..". If you take a sick day, there is hell to pay. But they don't give a damn what you look like, as long as you show up every day. Besides me, there were two other longhaired men in my office. We all caught a lot of crap for almost everything under the sun, but the length of our hair surprisingly was never one of them.
