Hey guys, I was browsing youtube for any videos on long hair, and came across a couple that had people putting mayonnaise and oils into their hair. They say it helps the hair because it is high in oil and protein.
Thought it was pretty interesting, any of yall tried anything like that?
Also curious if anyone knows of any kind of strange, natural hair treatments??
Have you ever tried an herbal hair rinse? Here's one that stimulates the scalp, promotes hair growth, and also removes dandruff.
Put two heaped tablespoons of chopped fresh rosemary and one tablespoon of dried chamomile flowers in a bowl. If you have lighter colored hair switch the quantities so you have more chamomile than rosemary. Mix them both with two heaped tablespoons of dried lime flowers and then pour 3 1/2 cups of boiling water over the herbs. Let it infuse until it's tepid and strain out the herbs. When you wash you hair, make sure all the shampoo is out of it, and then apply the rinse. =) Good luck!
never tried that, but i will look into it!
thanks!
There's a few that I know of.
One is an SMT (Snowymoon's Moisture Treatment) that uses a ratio of 1:1:2 of plain aloe vera gel (Iused fruit of the earth; it's usually clear, and be sure to check ingredients, as some aloe has other things like lidocaine, which you don't want), honey, and conditioner. You heat the honet and mix it with the aloe and conditioner, put it on your head and cover it with saran wrap or shower cap. You can apply heat to it, but I just stick a wool beanie over that because I'm lazy.
I don't use aloe anymore, so I substitute olive or coconut oil in for it. It works better for my dry hair.
Mayo is a common one, but it never worked too well for my hair becaue it doesn't enjoy protien in large amounts usually.
Another thing you can try is a hot oil treatment. I just use whatever is lying around that isn't vegetable oil, usually olive, heat it on the stove or microwave, and then put it on my head, following SMT procedure. It's fairly simple.
I also make a leave in from coconut and jojoba oil, another thing I got of LHC (where I learned most of this) called Kimberlily's Coconut Butter, or something. It takes 2 parts coconut oil to one part jojoba. I usually add some olive as well, because my hair is frizzy and curly.
For wavy-straight hair, people can benefit from misters. Take an empty spray bottle, fill with distilled (or second best, bottled water unless you have soft water) and add some melted coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba, and aloe vera gel, and shake before use. Don't use too much of the oils or butter in it, of you may end up with greasy hair. My hair is curly, so I just pile the stuff one though. XD; You can use any combination of those oils to the sprayer, and even ACV (apple cider vinegar) for shine. I reccommend coconut and jojoba, honestly. This can be used on wet or dry hair, I suppose.
I started making some Fox's Shea Butter Cream yesterday as well. You take a 1:1:2-3 ratio of coconut, shea, and conditioner of choice. I added some jojoba oil too, and it works great!
cool man, thanks for the info
i'll try some of those out
Beneficial oils (like: Jojoba oil, Kukui nut oil, Almond or even Olive oil) are good to put a small amount into your hair ends to prevent and cure dryness; but, mayo would hav e to be washed out afterwards, --- and the washing would then remove all the oils that you just put in!
There was a former MLHH user here who once made his own blended Avocado mix to smear into his hair. If you like green hair, then I say, "Go for it!" However, I'd much rather make my homemade Guacamole to EAT, rather than to use as a hair treatment (lol).... Here's my recipe:
INGREDIENTS
4 Haas avocados, mashed after skinned & pits removed
1 large vine-ripened tomato, cored & diced
1 fire-roasted red pepper, peeled, seeds removed, & diced
1/2 red oinion, finely diced
2-3 cloves of garlic, peeled and center green portion removed, minced
small handful of cilantro, chopped coursely
juice of 1 or 2 fresh limes
a dash of hot sauce (I prefer El Tapatio or Cholula over Tabasco)
Salt & black pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Mix all of the above ingredients, adjusting seasoning to your prefered level of spicyness. Then bring out some crispy corn Tortilla chips, and then EAT (do *not* waste it on your hair)!!!

thanks, and hmmmmm i've always wondered what i would look like with a crazy color hair, like blue or green, haha
You mean you don't just put them in a blender on low and stare in blank frustration at them while they spin, like that guy in that stupid commercial?
All these recipes for hair treatments are interesting although my worst fear is someone will eat my hair while I'm asleep.
LOL
Kevin
haha, or maybe your pet would if you have one! Or you might end up eating it yourself while you are dreaming that its food!!
lol
I had a dog that did just that! He didn't need any enticements either! Luckily it was just licking, no eating. But I would wake up in the morning with a bad case of "cow licks"
Bruce
maybe he was conditioning your hair for you. I wonder if Dog slobber is good for hair. LOL
Kevin
It makes a good MOUSSE!!
Bruce
Thanks for the recipe. I've never made it with tomatoes.

Keep in mind that mayonnaise is supposed to be egg yolks and oil, but if it comes in a jar it might include flour, vinegar, spices, preservatives and who knows what else.
hmmmm, yeah good point, hadn't thought about that.
I just care my hair with oil and some natural shampoos without silicons and agressive chemicals.
I haven't tried mayonnaise yet but I'm sure it has the same good results to it like vinegar rinses have.
