Hey everyone! Hmm, where to start... Okay, I suppose I'll just give you a brief history of me and my hair. When I was a freshman in high school, I got into heavy metal music and I started playing guitar. I had very short hair and really wanted long metal hair for headbanging like my idols so I decided to grow it out.
Now I'm a seventeen year old senior in high school, playing guitar is my life, and I have thick, slightly wavy, dark brown hair that is barely past my shoulders. I'm not into haircare and these special products like I should be, I just shampoo it, condition it, blowdry it, and sometimes straighten it because I hate how it curls up on the ends when it hits my shoulders. I've always hated my hair. It's too thick, too wavy, and it's all dry/straw-like because of heat damage.
On top of all this, I recently accidently burned it. On New Year's Eve I went to a friends house and we had a bottle rocket war. Sparks from my own bottle rocket got in my hair and I also think one of my friends shot my hair with a roman candle. It was very stupid of me to not protect my hair but now it's too late. It burnt some spots and a fairly big chunk of hair came out. When my hair is down you can't see the burnt parts but when it's in a ponytail (which is how I USED to usually wear it) the short burnt strands aren't long enough to go so they just hang out and it looks bad.
I'm not sure what to do now. I want long, healthy, beautiful, metal hair sooo bad but I just can't seem to get it. My hair is burnt very short and frizzy in 2-3 places though you can't see it all because my other hair covers it. There are also a few individual burnt hairs here and there. Also, my hair feels like straw (it felt like that before but after the fireworks incident it's even worse I think) and is very dry and gets in tangles easy. I can't wear it in a ponytail now either because it looks stupid. Also, now that I burnt it, I'm scared to straighten it because it will burn it even more, so I either have to hate my hair because it's wavy or burn it.
What do I do? I've been growing it for years (my hair grows slow) and I REALLY don't want to cut it short and restart that process. I won't be able to headbang, it will look stupid short, and it will take years to grow back. I already hated my hair, but now I hate it x10 lol. I know you can't truly repair damaged/burnt hair, but what can I do to help it get healthy again? Or is it a lost cause? Should I just cut it short? You can't really notice that it's burnt but everytime I run my fingers through my hair I can just feel the damage. It's so dry, frizzy, tangled, burnt, etc. Help me!!! Thanks all!
Hey !
Don't hate your hair because it's thick and wavy. Many guys would like to have your hairtype (Myself included !) :)
Concerning your problem, you aren't forced to cut it short. You can just do a small trim for example (One or two centimeter), to remove the very damaged parts. This way, it will remove the tangles. The dryness can be "fought" with a lot of conditionner. And I suggest you to forsake the straightener.
Good luck !
Vivien
Well if it was even waves that hung straight at the end I wouldn't mind. But instead, it's fairly straight until the ends, then it hits my shoulders and back and curls up on all sides. And what about the damage from the fireworks? I understand the damage from the straightener can be fixed, but those fireworks have burned my hair to like an inch long in 2 places (though you can't see them)... but it's still really damaged.
