Hi guys! I used to be known as "Calix Vitae" and was here about 3-4 years ago. This pic was from 2005 when it was close to its longest. Well, I got to the point with my hair in 2006 where it was going up my nose when I slept, so off it went, hence my disappearance from the board.
However, I and my wife miss my long hair, so I'm back to growing it out. Right now it is at a socially "normnal" length (I'm growing it out from a crewcut), but I'm getting there. This time I'm using a hairdresser to help out so that I don't tear my hair out at the transitional stage.
She seems pretty knowledgable, but what she isn't too knowledgeable about is men's styling. Aside from this site, are there any other places you guys would recommend that she could look at for styling tips for professionals?

I'm trying to load up hairboutique.com as I type, but the work version of the Internet is sloooooow. I'll be sure to take a look at it when I get home.
Thanks!
Nate
I remember you Calix Vitae/Nate the DP. If your hair grows back like the photo, then you'll have an awesome mane for sure. Good luck with you journey back to longhairdom. I'm glad you're growing it back. Probably just let your hair grow for a year or so, then have it shaped up a little, but don't let any stylist put in layers. They just seem to cause problems when you're looking to have long hair of any appreciable length. There are several guys here who get maintainance trims periodically to keep the ends kind of even. It slows down the ultimate length achievment, but many will argue that the hair looks more tamed in the process--your call certainly. As for me, I haven't seen scissors in two and a half years. My hair probably would look better evened up, but I haven't had the nerve to let a stylist go near it. My ends are a little sparse the further down, but then I have no splits and broken hairs either.
Again, good luck regrowing, and I don't know any sites off hand that might have male long hair styling tips. Most of what you will find is probably not going to be styling for what any here would define as long. If you search men's long hair styles, you usually find what looks like barely shoulder length.
So, why the new user name? The cup of life was very cool.

The new user name is because it is how I identify myself in other settings. Using it here is an attempt to not confuse myself.
I am a deaf bagpiper, BTW. I'm looking forward to getting my hair stuck in my mouth while blowing up the bag...
BTW, I agree with you about no layers. I won't touch layers until I can be guaranteed that the hair will be able to be caught up in the back, to keep it out of my face.

Hi Nate.I joined the board in August of '05 so I may have missed your postings.I can't really recall seeing you back then so maybe we just missed each other.Other than that its great to hear you are coming back to the longhaired ranks:)I don't think I'd of cut my hair for a few strands up my nose as I mostly have then landing in my mouth at the worst possible times it seems.LOL.Anyway welcome back!
Mark
Didn't let it get that long, but that'll definitely be something for me to keep an eye out for.

Hi Nate,
I too having hearing loss. It's in the moderate to middle range with around 40% loss in both ears due to hereditary on my mothers side. I also had a go at learning the pipes via using a chanter pipe but didn't stay with it. However I'm learning the tin whistle at the moment so it's a step in the right direction. Something simple in 2 octaves and learning by feel rather then reading notes.
My natural hair texture appears to be very similar to yours - the little ringlets below your ears is nice and thick and I wish you the best in regrowing your locks into the potential of a magnificient mane of celtic hair.
