Anyone else get really upset when video games don't let you make any male characters with long hair? I just got Fallout 3 and there aren't any long hair styles to give my character. I hate when I can't make a character that looks like me because they don't have any long hair settings. Any one else get upset by this?
i recently got Soul Calibur IV, and it lets me create male characters with long hair. Guild Wars also lets you create male characters with long hair (naturally, all of my male characters have long hair!). many MMORPGs let you do that, in fact. I have never played Fallout 3, so I wouldn't know about it, but there are actually a bunch of games, particularly fantasy if you're into that, that let male characters have long hair.
Yeah but your options are usually still limited...there will be 20 almost identical short hair males and then the one "long hair" option...so all of us long hairs have to choose the same one option and it does not really fit too many of us. Another bad example of long haired males is The Sims (the original The Sims 1 at least). The girlfriend wanted to make a sim for me and had to scour the internet to find a downloadable user created head to use.
Yes that is very true... they should definitely make scaleable hair length and more styles, as one of my biggest problems w/ long hair in video games is that its not long enough.
wow I just bought fallout 3 myself and asked myself the same thing
it sucks, but there isn't much that can be done about it
Actually I bought my first game console as a Christmas gift...a Wii and got Guitar Hero as an extra.Well I have to admit to being a bit disappointed that I could make a better Mii character to represent myself.I mean they do have some longhair styles to choose from but I wanted hair to my butt! However with Guitar Hero I was able to do a much better job creating a better character with the traditional "headbangers mop" option:)Still though no hair to the butt!

Haha! I don't either. Shocking, I know.
Hegg.........I am indeed shocked to learn of this. Why, I thought most EVERYBODY lived their life for video games. How is the world ever to survive now? LOL
Your new avatar looks great!
Justin~
The old one was a bit out dated, the new one is pretty cool.
Thank you! :D Yes, I grew tired of that old picture!
Haha its probably the only game I know of that lets you have long hair on a male. Its fun as hell too playing online and stuff.
Contact the manufacturers/software developers. Seriously, they aren't going to address this issue without feedback from consumers. The louder you make your voice, the more they are likely to listen. Enlist your long-haired friends who play with you, to send their feedback too. This does work!
I collect fashion/fantasy dolls by Robert Tonner. A number of collectors begged Robert to please add some males with long hair to the collections. Due to overwhelming feedback, Robert made his first male, Chase Model Sean O'Neill, in 2006, with a limited run of 500 dolls as a doll convention exclusive. With mid-back raven hair, they were sold out (and, yes, I spent the most money ever on a doll buying this limted long-haired male). So popular, he now fetches twice what I paid on the secondary market. I purchased mine directly from a convention attendee. Satisfied with the success, Robert chose to make the Prince Charming doll in his 'Cinderella' line, as a ponytailed long-hair (I have the blonde-haired version). Doll was received very warmly by collectors.
A license to do Pirates of the Caribean resulted in Jack Sparrow and Will Turner dolls, again very good sellers for Tonner Doll Company. Last summer, Tonner unveiled the new Jeremy Voss collection, with Jeremy being a very long-haired male fashion designer. Jeremy has chestnut hair almost to his waist. An edition of 5000 dolls, he has sold very well. Of course, I had to have him, and he is absolutely gorgeous.
Collectors wrote snail mail letters, sent email, gathered petitions, and accosted Robert at conventions whenever they could. Robert and his staff listened and responded. He is the only vinyl fashion/fantasy doll manufacturer to manufacture male dolls with long hair. He is also the most successful and biggest too. Manufacturers do pay attention, when enough interest is expressed by consumers. But you have to speak up! They know that it is in their best interest to cater to consumers wants/desires. I bet if enough of you expressed your feelings regarding this, they would make changes.
yes, it bothers me, too.
I am playing lots of computer games. But sometimes there are exceptions, for example "THE WITCHER".
The main character has not butt long hair, but at least shoulder length - and looks cool, I have to admit. Its an excellent and outstanding role playing game beside that aspect. Try it out.
You're not the only one. I absolutely love Fallout 3, but the character editor is severely lacking compared to Oblivion. I was kind of pissed off that I couldn't make a character that looks like me. However, I'm sure tons of mods will come out that will fix that.
How is Oblivion? I'm really liking Fallout 3 and I'm thinking I should pick that up since I can get it for only $20. If its like Fallout 3 with long-haired sword wielding barbarian gameplay it sounds awesome.
Oblivion is exactly the same game-play-wise as Fallout3...Only it's medieval which I prefer. DEFINATLY get it man, it's VERY long. Be sure to get the Special edition.

Do you mean the Game of the Year edition? Because that's $60 instead of $20 though. Is the extra stuff really worth that $40 more?
Yea that's the one i was referring to. It's still $60???

Try that link, according to Amazon it's 28.99 new. But that's for PS3 (which is what I have). I highly recommend either edition but most liekly you'll want to eventually get thte 2 expansions which are sold seperately, but they're included in the GOTY edition.

Sweet. I wanted it for PS3. At Best Buy it's still $60 for the GOTY edition. $29 isn't bad at all. Thanks for the link!
Hahaha I had the same thing happen. I was making my character for Fallout3 (Recieved for Christmas) and noticed the same. The game is awesome but the character design is a huge step down from Oblivion which is great all around.

I used to play a lot of games in the past but I'm not a very active gamer anymore. I own a wii and I had to make some changes to my mii character when I started growing my hair.
Luckily the editor over there allows that.
Yes. It's a common problem. It's a mixture of a couple of things. Sometimes the people who wrote it can't do the code to accurately represent long hair, or no longer than shoulders sometimes. It's actually supposed to be quite difficult to code for longer than shoulder length.
Other times you can make a female character with long hair, but they won't let you make a male one, which is very annoying.
Often I could make a female with my hair length, but the males are limited to shoulder length, which shows a basic lack of imagination. Sometimes the only beard they will give you is a goatee, which I truly don't understand!
