I posted a few weeks back asking about minibraids. Today, I actually went through with it. Whomever made the comment about being "tender headed" was right. The total time in the stylist's chair ended up being over 7.5 hours, and every minute was agonizing. This is definitely rough on your hair, and I hope that nothing too drastic or permanent results.
Here's a couple of pics showing the aftermath:
I don't know that I'd do anything like that, but wow, looks pretty good! How long have you been growing?
Shane
I'm guessing that your wallet is feeling pretty tender at the moment, too.
WOW they look great! Hope it all works for you. Take care
Hi Alex!WOW, that is a very impressive braiding but I wouldn't be able to sit in the chair that long to have it done.I give you credit for your patience as the result looks cool.Just wondering what the stylist charged you for that job if you don't mind me asking.Overall Alex you have a gorgeous mane my friend:)

Looks awesome, so it was worth the time.
Experimenting like this is cool, you don't loose any lenght but still have a different hairstyle.
That's really cool, Alex! You must have quite the tolerance for pain, having sat there for so long. Stay well and keep on growing. =)

Dude, your hair looks so awesome Oo.
Here's a picture from another angle. I am having some trouble styling the hair. I use a bandanna to tie it back, but I've found I can't tie the top over because of the sheer size of my hair. Instead I tie it with a bandanna, and then put a knit cap over that. I'll have to play with it in the weeks to come. Also, it's very uncomfortable to try to sleep on all this hair.
To answer a few questions:
I have been growing my hair for 4-5 years, at it's longest it just touches the small of my back.
The cost was $180 and up, and I thought for sure that by the time the 6th hour rolled around I was going to be paying a fortune. My stylist ended up graciously charging just $180, and I tipped $40.
As for pain tolerance, I have been pierced nearly a dozen times in some very sensitive areas. I like to think I have a fairly reasonable pain tolerance. However, after 7 hours of the twisting and pulling I was ready to curl into a whimpering ball on the floor. That isn't hyperbole, I don't think I can really over-state how much it hurts.
That's a great shot Alex of just how long your hair really is and it also shows the braids well.I give you credit for spending that much on a stylist, but hey, seven hours is a lot of time. For that price I'd want to keep them braids for a long time.As for the sleeping issue I usually wear a t shirt in bed leaving my hair tucked between my back and the shirt. That way should I move around at night there is not that great a risk of pulling my hair.My hair is a tad bit longer than yours right now as you can see by this recent pic.Anyway you look awesome my friend:)

Hey Alex,
I knew it would look great.
I'm not tender headed either, I was once pulled out of a bar by the hair by the cop/bouncer. Hehe.
If my hair gets that long (and I move from this hick state) I might get that done someday, I always liked the look.
Paul
It looks good on you.
I already knew about the pain. My sister did it on a lark once, not knowing any better. It was right off the gangplank on a cruise, and there they were offering to do it. The pain made here take it out after a few days. Apparently, it only hurts for a few days and then you adjust; but she didn't know that. So. Hang in there.
7.5 hours !!! Holy crap! It does look good though so enjoy them as long as you can. Better off than with dreads, although dreads are cool only a few people have ever removed them successfully and lived to tell about it.
Kevin
Wow, that does look good! Was this for a special occasion your just because?
Bruce
Very sexy! But, probably bad on your hair.
jeffrey
Wow thats really impressive as you would need alot of patience to sit there and have that done over that length of time yer I sure hope you aint got no damage from doing that would be ashame if you did !!!
