I have wavy, wiry hair that I'm trying to grow out (3" on top, 2" sides and back). A month ago, I decided I wanted to go either all straight or all curly. My stylist suggested going the straight route with Rusk Anti-Curl, saying it would get rid of most but not all of my waves, and she said that many guys use this when they are trying to grow their hair out. I had it done last week, and there is no noticeable difference in my hair other than a few waves laying a little flatter. My hair is also more wiry in the front than before. She even used the strongest formula on my hair. I'm disappointed with the results.
My question is how soon can it be before I can have other chemical services used on my hair (perms, highlighting, etc.)? I have read that the Anti-Curl treatment can be gone within a few weeks but others have said it can last as long as four months. My stylist said that since it's a treatment it will eventually wash out after about three months, but it looks bad - I wish I could do something about it now.
Has anyone used the Anti-Curl treatment and liked it? Anyone try it and not like it? Has anyone given up on trying to grow long hair that just won't go straight and gotten a perm or a 'fro? Thanks for any feedback you can provide.
I made a mistake with the previous posting.
I don't know how long the Rusk treatment lasts, but when it's gone, if you really have to do something I'd suggest getting your hair straightened using the more common method, which is that perm solution is combed through your hair to straighten it. Basically, it's a perm to perm your hair straight instead of to curl it.
Try to live with your natural hair though, because when it gets longer and has some weight, it's own weight will keep it under control, and waves won't be a problem and could look cool. Just wearing a hat for a while may work. The problem with getting a perm now is that as your hair gets longer, the last 3 inches will look different than all the rest, and it seems to me with an afro that wouldn't look good at all.
