Hey all,
I have a question for all of you. For those who don't know, I'm just starting to grow my hair out and well, it can still be styled nicely but, there might be times in the future that I'll either have to hide it or cut it. I DON'T wanna cut it. So, I'm sure at least one person has had to hide their long hair (mine's still kinda short) but maybe like putting on a hat & tucking up in might help. Anyway, I'll have to hide it to look like I have a short business acceptable style, but I can use things like a hat, any help??
Thanks!!
Shane
Are there really any business settings (besides mall Santa) where a hat would be more acceptable than long hair? You could wear a wig. That pretty much guarantees that nobody will ask you about it. Or talk to you. Or look at you.
Perhaps take this route if you REALLY don't want to cut your hair:
Just wear it "as is" and enjoy the whole Awkward Stage as it unfolds. This is the way I did as well as several others here. Nothing to be ashamed of.
No No, My Friend, you have the wrong idea! I'm not ashamed of it at all! In fact, it's like a badge of honor! LoL!!!
It's a long story and I don't really want to say it here because if the wrong person reads it, it could get them into great trouble, and I don't want that.
Let's put it this way, at the this place I used to work, they had a store where people who worked for the company could go shop. Now, I'm great friends with this manager and even tho I left the company, he doesn't care if I still go there. However, This company has a policy that states men must be clean cut, short hair styles. I can get away with it right now, but I'm thinking in another month, it might be a different story. So he knows I want to grow my hair out but if other people see me with it that are still with the company, it'll give issues for my friend, and I don't want that.
That's why I asked ;)

OK..........now I get it. In the future, put it in a bun. I have seen this done before. It looks "tidy" for them and at the same time you keep your hair. A guy here in town that works at McDonalds does this. No problem for him. And when he gets out of there and walks neath the arches of gold, away with the bun. Wow.......you should see how long his hair has gotten. 3/4th back length!!! Amazing what can be put in a bun.
And he can still shop at the company store.
Everybody wins!
Sure. He can even shop in the local zoos clothes apparel corner with all the fancy colourful shirts featuring Primates, Birds, Reptiles etc. I have a shirt myself with "Little Red Monkey." (And I wasn't even wearing my hair in a bun. Never have.)
Wow where this lovely company store and do I have to be an-exployee and perhaps I better put a hat on and hide my hair!
So let me get this straight...
1. You want to be able to keep shopping at an employee-only store, although you are no longer an employee.
2. If your friend, who is still an employee of this company, is discovered for still allowing you to shop at this employee-only store, he would get into trouble.
3. The fact that you are growing out your hair, and therefore not adhering to the grooming policies of this company, make it likely that you will eventually "get caught" shopping at this employee-only store, which will cause problems for your friend.
Am I on track with this so far? I guess I see it like this: You aren't an employee of this company anymore, so it's wrong for you to pose as one just for the sake of getting a good deal on a product. However, if you are dishonest enough to continue posing as an employee and shopping at this employee-only store, I think the least you should do is cut your hair and actually look like an employee (*GASP*... yeah, I said it) in order to protect your friend, who is sticking his neck out for you. If you aren't willing to do this, it means you are willing to risk your friend's job in order to save a couple of bucks, which makes you a poor excuse for a friend.
You speak of wearing your hair as a badge of honor. If I'm understanding your story correctly, it doesn't sound like you are very honorable to begin with, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Get your priorities straight, figure out what really matters, and the question of how to hide your hair will become a non-issue.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
All I can add is to Simba, Dude think about this and in addition if you find this excuse to need to hide your hair you'll find others and then we'll wonder if your really serious.

I have to say that Val hit the nail on the head!Sorry, but he is right.

Wow Val, I knew there was a reason I liked you, lol. It's been a while since I heard a person put in there place with such poetry as you just did there.
It reminds me of those old Zorro movies where he slices a Z on his opponent. I've got a sharp tounge but my style is like a ax compared to that deft reproach!
I wanna hire you to write some letters for me...
Classic!

Hide your Hair? Join the Sikh sect.
They keep their long hair out of sight under turbans. LOL.

Shane,
I would suggest, you could easily use a melting wax or mild gel to slick your hair back for a more professional appearance.
Personally, I understand where you are coming from because the awkward stage is not exactly friendly to some business environments, since it's no longer the mid 2000's when "moppy" hairstyles were all the rage.
