Two and a half years of growth all gone in 10 minutes ;(
Had to for my new job as an orderly/patient transporter at Barnes hospital. I enjoyed having hair past my shoulders.
I managed to get in a little crack when they complemented me on my haircut. "I'm a completely different person now that my hair is short!" But that's all I allowed myself. After all, they hired me.
I plan to grow it on again sometime soon. I just need to get situated in this job and then they probably wouldn't mind if I grew it long.
I experience phantom hair pains. I keep reaching back to fiddle with my ponytail or run a finger along my eyebrow, or reach back after putting on a jacket to move my ponytail out of the way. Showering is much simpler, as well, but all in all I wish I never had to cut it.
I'll be back some day with glorious pictures!
Oh well never mind easy come easy go!
They can do it faster than that.
Some day.
Barnes in St.Louis, I assume?
Yes, you can grow it back in a couple of years, or more. Well, until the next organization want you to cut it.
I dislike the term "longhair", but I am one. I always have been and I am certain that I always will be. If someone can not accept me for what I am, then we are simply not compatable.
just my take on it.
jeffrey.
I'm sure it is and doubt it's the Barnes NHS hospital in London as they are not that funny about dress code.
Cheers,

All I can add to this is that I'm surprised that a hospital would be so rigid about you having long hair.Of all the hospitals I've visited there have been at least one longhaired guy that I would notice in my travels.I thought hospitals were rather tolerant with such issues.Personally I would have seeked employment with a different facility.I would have a big problem taking a job with a haircut demand attached and then having any sense of enthusiasm about working there.

Yes, well, I am 20 years old and don't have a degree yet, and unemployment around here is freaking terrible, and I need any job I can get right now to pay for class so I don't wind up at an anus of society retail job forever.
Hey, I'd look for a government job as they seem to be tolerant of people of all types.I know once you've got experience that helps big time especially if you know what your doing.Hey whatever, you can always grow it back later.
Well speaking from experience working in anal retail grocery I'm weathering my third recession and have yet to be fired or laid off. That is to say I've been consistently employed for going on 26 years. Other than moving to different companies, and my current one has a short hair policy yet I have hair to my lower back or almost to my "anus" you could say. Unemployment is really bad here to and many people with degrees have no job.
Good luck on your re growth some day.
Kevin
Damn Kevin, way to buck the system!

It's not clear to me that you had to cut it or you just thought you had to cut it. I've known some people who said they cut their hair for their job but then I found out they were not actually told to cut their hair, they just thought it was a good idea. Are you one of them?
If you think they won't mind if you grow it back out then why would they want you to cut it? It doesn't make sense to me.
I do hope you grow it back though, and I for one will welcome you back into the fold.

This may go against the general view of many people on this board, but your decision to cut was definitely the right one. Now I am not by any means condoning some of the hair policies of various workplaces, but in times like these you have to make a choice: your hair or a job. Take it from someone who has been laid off for nearly a month and a half, if I was given the option of cutting my hair as a way to improve my image and land me a job, I would do it in a heartbeat. Your long hair may have looked nice, but in the end it will not provide you with any modicum of financial stability and won't put food on the table or a roof over your head. That's just my two cents.
