I apparently can't put "N/T" in the subject line for this thread; but, essentially what I have to say is really all written down in my reply to your reply to John B's original thread, if you scroll down quite a bit now, below...
I hope my response there is taken in the spirit of goodwill and good intentions, in which it was definitely given.
- Ken
Just a quick little PS" to you, Mick...
Since you have frequently stated yourself to be a school teacher in some of your past posts, I'm sure you fully understand the value and importance of setting a good example as an adult, and of how important it is to impress upon young minds ethics, as well as something about polite social etiquette.
With that in mind, please realize that many folks here who are less willing than I am to give you much "benefit of the doubt" have replied to your "Troll?" post with obvious words to the wise... The fact that Paul took the time to research so many of your own past posts, quoting your own words directly; as well as others, such as Bill, who shared with all who wished to read here some simple common sense statements that are as plain as the big nose on my face (which I regularly don't mind showing pictures of), means that there might be still some hope in the future that maybe you'll be more willing to meet us at least half-way....
If not, then I guess I've proven myself the big fool here, --- in which case, next time you post, I'll simply decide to just treat anything you say as simply a waste of my time to reply to.
- Ken
Ken, you are a generous soul and a class act.
I thought Bill Choisser's response also really put things into perspective.
Something about the other responses bothered me, in tone if nothing else. I couldn't put my finger on it precisely, but I recalled something I read earlier today (in a completely different, political context):
"...self-confident political groupings seek converts - look at Obama. Failed and failing political groupings seek to punish and list heretics."
Is the policing by non-moderators a version of punishing and listing heretics?
I've read the board off-and-on since its the-light.com days, and regularly since starting to grow out my hair a little over a year ago, and I find it to be remarkably troll-free. I'm sure this is due to the hard work of the moderators. My posts are regularly screened, and that's fine.
I don't know, it just seemed that the tone of the response to Mick, however deserved it may or may not be, was a little harsh.
Chris (who will post another pic soon).
While I wouldn't go out of my way to insult this Mick character as JohnB did, I see nothing wrong with calling him out to say exactly who he has a problem with instead of hiding behind generalities when he complains about hair he doesn't like. He still has not done so despite my several attempts. Frankly I don't understand why he even comes to this site at all, unless he is a troll.
He doesn't seem to enjoy our company, or he would be a regular poster, or at least have more positive things to say about us when he did come. We have many people here who don't post there pictures and I have no real problem with that.
So I must agree with the consensus, infrequent complaining posters are trolls in my book, they certainly aren't members or lurkers either.
It is not punishing heretics to ask that posters be positive, I think that word heretic is meaningless in this situation. But we do stick up for each other whatever you want to call it :)
Chris,
I think it all boils down to tact and manners, or lack thereof. NOT you of course. Before one says anything, it's helpful to think how one might take those same words were the situation reversed.
MB
Thank you, and I agree.
Chris
Thanks for the feedback. The quote obviously went over like a lead balloon! All I can say is that I didn't mean for it to have literal word-for-word applicability. I appreciate your comments.
Chris
Ok,I'll bite.
Sounds like you're accusing somebody of a witch hunt Chris. Punishing and listing heretics? Oh come on! And you through in Obama for good measure. Great, make it political.
BTW, it was more than "non-moderators", check the names.
Remarkably troll free? Curious statement, if the moderators aren't sure if we have trolls how can you be?
Do you really think John's posts were more harsh than Micks? John said post a pic already but Mick said "Rat's nest" and "looks like holy hell" referring to peoples' hair. For someone who once said, "Be very cautious when making general statements..." Mick sure makes a whole lot of 'em!
So where is Mick anyway? This should be his post. I've noticed Chris that you always go out of your way in his defense and he disappears. What's up with that?
Paul
I probably should have just held my tongue, but my goodness you seem determined to miss the point.
"Troll-free": I credit the moderators for this because I suspect that there are flame-bait and troll-type posts that don't ever make it on here because they've been filtered out by the moderators.
I didn't mean to defend Mick's statements as such, because he violates wise rule that if you can't say anything nice, it's better not to say anything at all.
Yes, I ob ject to the tone of that thread way down the board, although if it wasn't for the contrast between those responses and Ken's response, I probably wouldn't have bothered with what I wrote.
As for your last statement, if you're implying that I am the same person as Mick, I assure you that I am not. Am I authentic enough to be believed? Below is a picture of me from November 1, 2008.
Finally, "sniff, sniff"?? What is that and who is trying to bait whom here? Do you want a discussion, or a bunch of yes-men? Believe it or not, I'm not trying to be your enemy.
Chris
Chris,
I think you were right in not holding your tongue, people should speak their mind a little more than they do. That trait of yours' is one that I admire as I share it.
With all respect, I don't think I missed the point at all. The only points I see you making are that it's ok for some to be harsh but not get harsh in return and "If you mess with Mick, you mess with me." I had a strong feeling that you would pop up and take his slack.
I agree with you 100% that the moderators do a excellent job, I don't see a lot of flaming and crap on this board. There is no way that there are not some slipping by, so "100%" is pushing it.
Same person as Mick? Lol, I was thinking maybe you know him off this board. Maybe you shouldn't have voiced that, hmmm...
The "sniff sniff" thing is me sniffing at the bait you laid out there. The title was funny, no?
Why didn't you just post a reply where you really wanted to?
Yes men. No I don't like people who agree just to avoid disagreeing, they're very dangerous in the long run. I expect someone to disagree with what I say sometimes. Please feel free to respond to any post of mine you don't like, I'll try my best to give you a rational and mature "discussion".
I wouldn't consider you an enemy, maybe an rival. I don't think we march to the beat of the same drummer. That's fine with me, I think variety is a good thing.
I do like the pic, Chris. The waves look really cool and I hope you continue growing it. Lord knows we need more conservatives with long hair.
Paul
KMF,
I have to admit I misread the "sniff, sniff" as "whaa, whaa". Put the way you meant it, the title is pretty funny.
Hatchet buried.
Thanks,
Chris
Yeah, it was only after I posted that I realized it could be read as "whaa, whaa". Lol. But it was too late, don't you hate when that happens?
Paul
Ken, you are one hell of a guy! Generous almost to a fault.
This old world is so full of vicious people, we all grow fangs and claws just in case, and here you standing with your olive branch. What a wonderful human being you are.
I was planning on working around the house Sat. but it rained... so I got on line and seen this so I started to wonder about, "who is this guy anyway". (Blame it on the rain Mick!)
I know I can be mean sometimes but I only snip at those who deserve. I do try to "live and let live" and never judge others but sometimes, well... I feel people should at least live what they preach. Too many times, irl I have run across those who berate, yell or curse at others only to be amazed when they get put down, yelled or cursed at. I admit I enjoy it.
I know who I am and it's nothing like who you are but I do admire people like yourself and am thankful for them.
Good going,
Paul
I think I know who he is, although I'm not sure. He looks like someone who used to post on the Long Hair Community as Sunsailing. I tried to cross check, but it is showing no picture and no posts by him. That board was moved onto a new server some time ago, so it is possible that all his posts there pre-date that. My apologies if I have got the wrong person. I could probably be quite sure if I go into their archive of posts from the old server.
OK, I looked in their archive that only goes up to 2003, and it has a picture taken 2004 - not sure how that works(?). I reckon it's him, though. He even looks like he's wearing the same shirt! I hope he's washed it, LOL! Anyway, it doesn't look like he's posted anything over there since then. I'm guessing he is hanging out at some other long hair site.
As to what he said, it's true that most people on LHC only show pics of the backs of their heads, but the gender split there is approx 90/10 female/male, and they are a little paranoid. Most of the men on there do show their faces (I do), but a significant number don't, and no-one thinks any the worse of them.
LHC is a fairly friendly site for males who already have quite long hair, although moderation is quite strict. If your hair is too short they may think you are a voyeur, which some may indeed be.
