what do you think about the hair styles of the 1980's ?
Most of the numerous styles tended to be pretty harsh on the hair.
But then again, not everyone wore their hair like the "popular styles" (me for one).
My hair, for the most part, has been like the late 60s look, I guess. I never had the mullet, the bangs, or the hairsprayed super poofy look.
The 80s were okay except for the god-awful mullet. The lead singer for Def Leppard comes to mind here. Ugh! The hair bands all had decent hair, even if they were hard on it. Sales of hairspray in the late 80s were at an all time high!
I wasn't born until 1987 so I was unaware of the long hair styles then but now since I'm a big fan of 80's metal or "hair bands" and I watch specials on TV I wonder why nobody's hair is like that anymore. I liked the "big" hair styles. Every band back then pretty much had nice hair.
Don't shoot me down but I can't stand mullets, perms and long hair with short bangs look. So when I see 80's bands I can't understand why they did that to their hair, it looked ugly.
Anything, and I will repeat it. "ANYTHING" looks better than this buzzcut "Mr. Potatohead" look that so many have now.

I like the 0's and the big hair. I guess I just don't understand why eveyone hates the mullet? Its a hair cut nothing more. I find that no matter what style you have if its not like the person you are talking with they will say its ugly. I guess we all want what we look like to be accepted.
I like the 80's and the nice looking hair.
Why does everyone hate the mullet? Not everyone does, look around. There are still quite a few rednecks who wear mullets, not to mention Canadians of all types. ;-) Many people dislike the mullet because it's not one thing or the other. Make up your mind. Do you like long hair? Then grow it long. Do you like short hair? Then cut it off! What's with the short on top, and long in the back stuff?
The hairstyles of the 80s were all right at the time. Obviously we wore them. {LOL} The big hair and the mullet are done now, however. All one length, long hair is good. Shorter styles and shaved heads, especially for balding men, are good too. I'm just glad that the BIG hair is gone. It was basically the bouffants revisted, only during the 80s, the men were also wearing their hair big on top. Not becoming, in my opinion.
I can remember curling my hair for an hour a day, perfect little rows with the curling iron, perms were every 5 months and trims were every 4-6 weeks. I went through cans of mousse, gel, hairspray too numerous to even fathom a guess at. I was a slave to my hair, and damn it did look good. I was known for my perfect hair. Now when people from highschool see me, many don't recognize me. What a liberation long hair has been for me and for my pocket book as well. Now I see the feathery long styles are coming back for women and its a total freak!////////Mariah Carey is wearing feathered layers and I've seen a couple of other girls too. Oh Farrah where are you? I don't like mullets, never have. I was one of the only women I knew who thought billy rae cyrus looked stupid ( mainly because of his hair) oh and the way he danced too. I agree, go long, go short, but both is too confusing. I hate the part where the short becomes long. I've yet to see it ever run together in a smooth fashion. Micheal Bolton's hair annoyed me too. If you want to see some really good 80's hair guy pictures, look up the band platinum blonde, you will get a chuckle.
Well now not eveyone had bad hair (although 99% did) Don't forget Sebastian Bach of Skid Row, great hair.
I liked the way the Duran Duran guys wore their hair in the 80's. I was born in 70' so i was a teenager in the eighties, and i think it beats being a teenager now in many ways. The eighties were full of color and decadence. I remember alot of kids at my high school wearing their hair in a asymetrical bob. Which is when the hair comes over one of your eyes. I thought that was moody and cool. Although I laugh when I see my high school photos of it. I guess we all think the time we were a teenager was the best, but i'm sure glad i do not have to be in the company of little girls who are into brittany and n'sync. That would be my personal idea of hell.
